Blood: The Last Vampire (2000)
Blood-C (2011)

Blood + is a Japanese Anime - television series based on the anime film Blood - The Last Vampire is based. The series was also implemented as three manga series and adapted for video games and novels. A second series, the same franchise, came out in 2011 with Blood-C .

action

The series takes place at the time of the first broadcast (from September 2005) on the Japanese island of Okinawa Hontō in the city of Okinawa , near a US air force base, and thus a few decades after the plot of Blood - The Last Vampire .

The protagonist is a schoolgirl named Saya, one of three adopted children who lives with her foster father, George Miyagusuku. She suffers from severe amnesia and cannot recall any events from more than a year ago. When, however, one day she forgets her sneakers at school and wants to fetch them in the evening, very unusual things happen that have a decisive influence on her future life and provide information about her past.

At school, Saya meets Hagi, who seems to know her. Saya initially thinks he is the serial killer who is wanted in this area. But then a chiropteran jumps from a tree. After killing a teacher, he wants to pounce on Saya. But Hagi helps her and they first flee to an empty classroom. There he gives Saya his blood and she changes. Her eyes glow red and Saya lunges at the chiropteran with a sword and kills him. The chiropteran's body turns to stone while dying. Together with her brother Kai, who has also come to the classroom in the meantime, Saya and Hagi finally flee.

David, a member of the organization "Rotes Schild" (org. Red Schild), visits Saya and her stepfather George. He tells George that Saya has almost woken up and that he wants to take her with him. At first he is reluctant, but then agrees. However, he first drives Saya to his family's grave and tells her how they met before he adopted her. Meanwhile, the media showed that a US soldier from a nearby base was believed to be responsible for the murders. Apparently the Chiropteran killed at school was previously human. His body and that of the victim remain under lock and key. In the evening when David wants to pick up Saya, another US soldier named Forest enters George's shop. Forest is on the verge of transforming into a Chiropteran as well, and after a short fight, George seriously injures George.

While George is in the hospital, Kai takes his gun and wants to kill Forest in revenge. In the meantime, he has suckled his girlfriend and now almost completely transformed into a chiropteran. When Saya and Hagi catch him, they manage to kill Forest after a quick fight. Shortly afterwards, George is kidnapped from the hospital and taken to a nearby US military base. There he will be used for experiments for the "Project Delta 67".

Red Shield has now found George's whereabouts, and David, Hagi and Saya break into the base to free him. When George wakes up, his injuries are completely healed. He is also unusually strong, so he succeeds in z. B. to pierce a chiropteran with his hand. In the meantime, David makes an interesting discovery on the computer at the base: The US military has carried out attempts to artificially create chiropterans. Chiropterans have been appearing more and more frequently since the Vietnam War, and almost without exception the traces lead in the direction of the US military. In the meantime, the US military decided to destroy the base with an air strike. Finally, George and the others meet and want to flee, but are attacked by Chiropterans. They can be defeated, but George is also injured in the process. As his body heals, he also begins to transform into a Chiropteran. He asks Saya to kill him while he is still human. Although she was very reluctant at first, she finally granted his last request. Hagi, David and Saya eventually escape from the base just before it is bombed.

The companions continue their journey on a Red Shield ship. When Riku, Kai and Saya's younger brother, learns that George is dead, he locks himself in his cabin, but comes out later. The investigation by Rotes Schild finally revealed that the US military smuggled a wine from a girls boarding school in Vietnam. A man named Monsignor Argeno seems to be pulling the strings in the background. Saya finally agrees to go to boarding school to investigate. There she learns that there is supposed to be a phantom in the boarding school kidnapping black-haired girls. The Phantom hands out a blue rose just before kidnapping a girl. One morning Saya found such a rose on her desk. At night in the tower she meets the phantom and realizes that he is a chiropteran. In contrast to its conspecifics, however, it retains its human form and appears to be otherwise more intelligent. In battle, the Phantom appears to be superior to Saya, but disappears when Hagi intervenes.

In the meantime, Kai and Riku have also arrived in Vietnam, but are at the port. There they meet a group of orphans and spend some time with them. Riku also meets Mui, an orphan girl who lost her left leg while digging a mine. They both fall in love. When her father is injured, Mui goes back home and continues to help search for mines. Riku and Kai follow her and spend the night there. During the night, a secret group of people who want to kidnap Mui appears. When Riku and Kai rush to her aid, they are both abducted without further ado.

Meanwhile, Saya has made friends with her roommate Min. She's still doing research on the phantom. David and Julia von Rotes Schild express the assumption that it could be a Chevalier, one of "D" ´s personal servants. On a school trip to Hanoi, Saya has a nervous breakdown while visiting a museum of war weapons. She recalls that she apparently killed several people in Vietnam 30 years ago. She escapes from the museum and is attacked by the phantom in a side street. This confirms to be a servant of Diva and calls his name: Karl. He, too, has known Saya for a long time and expresses his displeasure that she has not yet awakened. When Hagi intervenes in the fight, he escapes.

The next day there is a big party in the girls' boarding school. Saya and her friend Min go there. At the festival she dances with Solomon, another Chevalier from “D”, but without the other knowing the identity of the person opposite. After the dance, Red Shield calls Saya to the basement of the boarding school, where Saya and Hagi had located a large container a few days earlier. Karl asked his people to pick up the container. He has a violent fight with David, Hagi and Saya. He can defeat both of the former and is also far superior to Saya. But before the fight is over, he flees one more time. This time to protect the container with a "D". Red sign then leaves the boarding school. Nobody notices the reporter, who has hidden in the background and is taking photos of the fighting Saya. When Saya wants to leave, she is stopped briefly by her friend Min. But she is startled when she sees Saya's injuries heal within seconds.

A few days later, the companions are on a boat that is sailing along a large river. They are reinforced by an elite troop of soldiers who report to the Red Shield. Shortly afterwards David tells Saya that "D" is actually Diva, the origin of all Chiropterans. The elite soldiers, however, are informed that Saya is the only one who can kill the Chiropterans. And that is only possible if she lets her own blood flow into a blood channel on her sword and thereby injures the Chiropterans. Apart from Saya's blood, Chiropteran can only be killed with massive injuries, such as a decapitation or a powerful explosion. The soldiers and Red Shield find the place where Diva's container is. But before they can storm it, it is already being carried away by two helicopters. Diva, who is about to wake up, starts singing a tune. Several children who have been abducted are now wearing red and yellow cloaks and begin to transform after hearing the singing. They turn into little chiropterans and attack the special unit immediately. Kai and Riku are among the abductees, but the melody has no effect on them.

Saya has another nervous breakdown when the group around Rotes Schild flees into a large house to avoid the attack of the baby chiropterans. But they break into the house without further ado. Saya falls into a frenzy in which she runs amok and seriously injures or kills all attackers - but also some people. Only when Kai storms into the room and calls her name does Saya return to normal. Karl, who was looking forward to a fight with Saya, wants to kill Kai out of anger, but Solomon prevents him. Karl escapes outside and helps Monsignor Argeno and Solomon load the container and fly it away. The members of Rotes Schild follow him. All that remains is a seriously injured female soldier who blows herself up together with the surviving baby chiropterans who have just woken up. When the companions rush outside as well, Karl turns into a chiropteran. In this state, however, he is much larger and stronger than ordinary Chiropterans and also looks more individual. He also keeps his human mind and speaks to Saya during the fight. For the first time, however, Saya can almost take on him and is stronger than ever in battle. She injures Karl with her sword, he becomes infected with her blood and begins to petrify. However, he jumps into the house just in time, chops off his petrified leg with a battle ax, and then escapes.

A few days later, Saya, Hagi, Kai and Riku are back home. They spend a day there with their friends and visit George's grave. With a difficult farewell, the four leave the place again and travel to Russia. Red Shield has found out that an important scientist who has researched the Chiropterans is there.

Meanwhile, the reporter, who was also in Vietnam, decided to follow the lead that Saya led him on. When photos are developed that he took of her fight, he realizes that she can also be seen in the photos of his father when she fought the Chiropterans in Vietnam. It is understandably a great mystery to him how a high school student can be seen in photos that are over 30 years old. Mao, a girl who is in love with Kai, tracks down the reporter and asks him about the status of his research. When he tells her that he has to stop his research because they are taking him to France and he has no money to get there, she steals from her father, who is a big animal in the Mafia, for 50 million yen. Together they drive to the airport and from there travel to France.

Meanwhile, Hagi, Saya, their brothers and Rotes Schild are on a train journey to Siberia. Lewis and Liza have also joined the Rotes Schild team. An old woman who also got on the train is actually a Chevalier from Diva who has changed his shape. The first part of the train journey is peaceful until Liza withdraws. The Chevalier kills her and assumes her form to deceive the companions. He later injected his blood into two French students who had previously approached Liza and Julia. This transforms the two into chiropterans. A fierce battle breaks out on the train, and the two are finally defeated. Dying, one of the Chiropterans pulls Riku off the train, and Hagi jumps after him and catches him to protect him from serious injuries. When Saya finally kills this Chiropteran, she too loses her balance and falls off the train. The Chevalier in the form of Liza follows her.

Saya lies in the snow and falls asleep. In the dream she remembers an episode from her past. In 1918 she was traveling with Hagi in the young Soviet Union to find the scientist Grigori. In an abandoned village they meet the girl Sonya, who persuades them to stay with her. The next morning, Sonya is knocked down and (supposedly) killed by an elderly villager. But the girl gets up again and kills the old woman. It is now clear to Saya and Hagi that this girl is a Chiropteran. Sonya finally turns out to be the scientist Grigori, now a Chevalier who has only assumed her form. A fight breaks out between Saya, Hagi and Sonya / Grigori, at the end of which the Chevalier is finally defeated. However, Hagi is seriously injured. After the fight, Saya falls asleep, and Hagi says that it should be one of her long sleep periods again and that he will be by her side when she next wakes up. She reminds him of a promise before falling asleep. In the present, she woke up after falling off the train, and Hagi, Riku and the fake Liza found her. They return to the rest of Red Shield on the evening train.

David, Lewis and Kai have since investigated the scientist Ted A. Adams and finally track him down in an abandoned nuclear power plant. He also did research on the Delta 67 project in Afghanistan in 1972. He injected the drug into his son Andrej, who then turned into a chiropteran. The chiropteran is still enclosed in a large block of cement from which he can break free. He attacks David and Ted and seriously injures both of them. Due to the many decades in the cement block, the Chiropteran is very weakened, so that it looks very emaciated and its self-healing powers have also decreased significantly. Even so, multiple shots from the pistols cannot stop him. He can only be defeated by a ruse by Kai in which the Chiropteran destroys a petrol can and then sets it on fire. He falls into a deep shaft and shortly afterwards Ted dies from the injuries inflicted on him. David and Lewis blow up the abandoned reactor, burying the chiropteran under tons of rock. David thinks that the chiropteran himself might have survived, but it is very unlikely that he will ever be able to break free.

In a small street, a young woman is attacked by three figures, who kill her and suck her blood out. The three disappear shortly afterwards. Meanwhile, Riku has developed a high fever. Saya takes care of him, and the fake Liza reveals herself to be Diva's Chevalier. The Chevalier is much stronger than Hagi and quickly defeats him. Saya doesn't stand a chance against him either. Her sword breaks in a fight. The Chevalier then tells her that she is also a Chiropteran and that Rotes Schild and Hagi have so far kept it from her. In addition, Diva is her sister. The fight between the two was watched by the three figures who suckled the woman in the alley. But they disappear when the Chevalier notices them. Angry that everyone has lied to her, Saya leaves Red Shield and goes to “the zoo”, the place where it all began. Hagi accompanies them.

Diva has woken up in the meantime and is gathering her Chevaliers around her. Solomon, James, Nathan and Amshel (who disguised himself as Liza). Only Karl is still missing. Meanwhile, Monsignor Argeno observes the results of his research in his laboratory. Suddenly two of the figures storm in, as they were seen before. In no time at all, they kill four Chiropterans who attack them and then disappear again. Later they ambush the Chevalier Solomon. They want to drink his blood and attack him. Although they manage to cut off one of his arms, they are still far inferior to the Chevalier, and he kills them both in a short fight. The reporter and Mao have now arrived in France, where they are tracing the trail of the wine. You will now also find the trail of blue roses.

Saya and Hagi have now reached the zoo, where everything began for them. You are attacked in the night by seven figures, who now imagine themselves as "the ship". Hagi hides the weakened Saya and fights against them. One of the ships, Guy, has an incurable disease. Believing that only a Chevalier's blood can cure him, he bites Hagi. However, there is no effect. The ships disappear as the sun rises. Guy places them on a stone altar of his own choosing so that the sun burns him down before he dies of the disease. Meanwhile, Red Shield and Saya's brothers are tracking down Hagi and Saya. David then shows Kai "Joel's diary", which contains all the secrets that have to do with Saya.

Saya and Hagi have arrived at the zoo. Saya looks around and starts to remember what it was like when she lived in this place back then. A professor named Joel Goldsmith raised her and made her live in this place. She saw him as a kind of father figure, but for him she was just a subject. One day he brought young Hagi - then a little boy - to Saya so that she could have a personal servant. The two did not get along at all at first and often argued. When Saya Hagi threatened that she would send him away if he did not do what she wanted, he tearfully replied that he would even spend the night with her if she told him to, because that was what Joel Goldsmith had finally bought him. Saya, who did not know this, comforted the young Hagi and from now on also respected his feelings, and the two became friends. A few years later, Hagi grew up. He noticed that Saya has not aged a day in all the time he has been with her and that her wounds heal after a short time. But he is not afraid of her anyway, he wants to stay with her. One day Saya asks him to pick a flower that she would like to give to Joel. Hagi climbs down a steep wall and picks this flower, but he slips and falls into the depths, seriously injuring him. Saya has no other advice than to give him her blood as she thinks that will cure him. And so it is, Hagi's injuries heal very quickly, and both of them rush to the mansion. This is now on fire. Diva has killed everyone there, with the exception of Amshel, whom she makes her chevalier, and ransacked the property and set it on fire.

In the present, Saya and Hagi continue walking in the zoo. There they meet Solomon, who speaks to them. He offers Saya to end this eternal fight against the Chiropterans and to come with him. Solomon tells her that when people learn that Saya drinks blood and is no longer aging, people will no longer accept her. In addition, they would not be able to protect her if Saya fell into her 30-year slumber. You and Diva are only awake for a few years and then sleep in a cocoon for 30 years. Saya first wants to consent, but then turns down the offer because she wants to protect her human family. Hagi and Solomon then fight each other, although Saya specifically asks both of them not to. Solomon is stronger than Hagi and eventually defeats him. But he doesn't kill him, just buries him under a stone avalanche.

In the meantime, Kai, Riku, David and Lewis have also arrived at the zoo and are looking for Saya. Riku visits the old tower in which Diva was imprisoned for years. Diva is back and Riku runs up to her, believing he has found his adoptive sister, Saya. Shortly afterwards, Saya also runs into the tower. She faces Diva. She and Diva are twin sisters and look very similar. But while Saya's eyes light up red in the frenzy, Diva's eyes light up blue. Riku is lying on the floor, Diva has started sucking him out, and the boy is fighting for his life with severe blood loss. Diva and Saya fight each other, but Saya is much weaker because she does not consume human blood. Diva and Saya jump from the tower and fight in the cellar and then on the meadow. Diva reveals to Saya that it was she who freed her from the cage, and Diva thus had the opportunity to kill everyone at Joel's party. She also notes that Saya was treated like a human while she was caged and used for experiments. Then Solomon reappears. He tells her that it is his duty to kill her because he is Divas Chevalier. Nevertheless, he only attacks her half-heartedly and offers her several times in the fight to change her mind and join them. Diva, meanwhile, decides to kill her sister after she has lost the fight. But in the literal last second, Hagi intervenes and saves Saya. Then Diva and Solomon leave the place. When the two meet Amshel, Diva notes that Solomon is in love with Saya.

Riku is about to die when Saya remembers that she could still save him. As a result, like Hagi, he would become her Chevalier and no longer age. Kai asks her to save him, and Saya infuses Riku with her blood.

Riku is in a coma for a while. During this time, the scientist Dr. Collins conduct experiments on him, but Red Shield prevents him. Dr. Collins and Julia make a great discovery in Chiropteran DNA when Dr. Collins is later called by Van Argeno and asked to meet in Paris. Then Riku wakes up. He has now become a Chevalier and realizes that something is wrong with him. He does not feel the need for food or sleep. Initially, Kai cannot accept that his brother is no longer human, and Julia says that one day Riku could be at least as strong as Hagi. Later, when Red Shield's headquarters are attacked by the ships, he survives an injury that would have killed most people instantly. In addition, his wound heals on the spot, and Riku feels a tremendous thirst for blood.

Mao and the reporter have now reached the zoo. They see the battle marks and follow the trail to Paris. The reporter's research reveals that Saya and Hagi have been living for many decades. One learns at the headquarters of Rotes Schild that almost all members there only became members because they lost friends or relatives to chiropterans. The only exception is Joel Goldschmidt. He is the descendant of the first Joel Goldschmidt, and it has become a tradition in his family to hunt down and destroy the Chiropterans. Saya gets a new sword from David because her old one was broken. A red crystal has been incorporated into the new sword. It's from the petrified George's body. David tells Saya that this crystal is to remind her what she is fighting for and that everyone at Red Shield has such a crystal.

The ships later attack headquarters because they want Saya's blood. Only then can she cure her illness. Most of the Red Shield members are killed in the attack, but one of the ships is also killed. When they see that Saya has two Chevaliers, they leave the headquarters in a hurry.

All the storylines converge in Paris. The reporter and Mao, Saya and Rotes Schild, the ship and Diva and her Chevaliers are in Paris at the same time. Irene, a member of the ship, is separated from the others, who cannot move freely in daylight. She meets Kai, who saves her from two muggers. When he asks her why she didn't just kill them, she replies that she has too many people on her conscience and that she wants to quit.

Both sit under a stone bridge that protects Irene from the sunlight. There Irene tells him about the creation of the ship. They were created by Amshel Goldsmith and some humans to fight against chiropterans and were caged like animals. They broke out one day and have been looking for a cure ever since. Because each of them gets the so-called "thorn stigma" after a while. This leads to the fact that their bodies petrify after a while and then they themselves die. Kai, now friends with Irene, offers to come to Saya and ask her for her blood, if it can really heal her. Irene initially agrees, but the sun has set in the meantime, and then the other ships appear and want to kill Kai and pick up Irene. Irene begs her for the life of her new friend, and when Saya and Hagi intervene in the fight, the ships flee again.

Saya is plagued by self-doubt. She is determined to kill all the Chiropterans. But that would end up including her, Hagi, and Riku. Kai asks them not to do it. He wants humans and chiropterans to live together peacefully at some point. Meanwhile, Mao and the reporter have also reached the Red Shield. Then suddenly the ships attack. Much of the facility was destroyed during the fight, but no one was injured or killed. When Irene collapses, David tries to shoot her, but Kai prevents him. He asks Saya to give Irene her blood and heal her. Reluctantly, she accepts this request. Irene drinks Saya's blood, and at first it seems to help her against the thorn stigma. But then Irene dies in pain and petrified. The ships now realize that they have been deceived and want to kill Diva in revenge.

In the meantime Karl has also recovered from the fight against Saya and meets his "brother" Solomon. Meanwhile, Van Argeno informs Amshel that their project can move on to the next phase.

Saya and Joel meet and exchange information about each other that the other was missing. Joel learns that it was Saya who freed the diva. Diva was locked up and kept like an animal and Saya let her out so Diva could surprise Joel at his party. There she then killed (almost) everyone. Conversely, Saya learns from Joel that she and Diva were born in 1833. Joel and Amshel Goldschmidt found the mummy of a female chiropteran. When they dissected it, they found two cocoons and opened them too. Inside them were Saya and Diva, who from now on grew up in the zoo.

Shortly afterwards, Saya learns from Joel what happened to her during the Vietnam War. Saya had already fallen into her sleep phase when Red Shield decided to wake Saya because a large number of Chiropterans had appeared in Vietnam. But something went wrong and Saya went nuts. After killing all the Chiropterans, she started killing people indiscriminately, almost all of whom were US soldiers who shot her. She was already fighting against Karl and hurting him badly. In the end she even attacked Hagi and cut off his hand. The hand grew back later, but has since retained the shape of a chiropteran hand. When the badly injured predecessor of David and George found her, she fell back into her long sleep. George was assigned to look after her until she woke up.

Saya is on the road with Hagi, Kai and Riku in Paris. They shop together and spend a great day together. Finally, they also take a photo in which Saya and her two brothers can be seen. In the meantime, Dr. Collins and Julia Rotes Schild and switch to the company "Cinq Fleshe". This belongs to Divas Chevaliers and does research on Chiropterans. Divas Chevaliers are planning a major attack against Red Shield, because they now know where their headquarters are. Solomon looks for David in the park and warns him because he doesn't want Saya to be killed in the attack.

Three days later, Diva and her Chevalier Karl attack the ship on which the headquarters are located. The human guards fire at the two of them with whatever weapons they have, but cannot even injure them. Diva and Karl kill almost all of the members of Red Shield. While Karl is stopping Hagi and Saya, Diva is looking for Riku. Karl now has new limbs. With his new arm he can shoot red thorns that are meter-long. With this new technique he seriously injured Hagi and Joel. Meanwhile, Diva found Riku and Kai. Kai shoots her several times, but Diva doesn't stop it and she knocks him out with one blow. Riku, who can't move because of sheer fear of death, is raped by her and then murdered. When Kai comes to, Saya has also reached the room in which the two are staying. Both look down tears at the dead Riku. Then Saya attacks Diva and can defeat her first. But she forgot to soak her sword with her blood so that Diva does not die.

Kai escapes with the members of Red Shield, but first takes a red crystal from his dead brother's body. David and Lewis want Saya and Hagi to come with them, but they refuse. They want to hunt down Diva and Karl here and now. Thereupon Joel activates the self-destruction of the ship and Red Shield flees.

The action begins when it has been more than a year after the attack on the ship. The red sign has now been smashed, almost all members are dead. Joel is in a wheelchair due to the injury caused by Karl, David has become an alcoholic, and Julia and Dr. Collins now work for Cinq Fleshe. Only Lewis and Kai - who had an amulet made from his brother's red crystal - still fight the Chiropterans. You have bought exploding special ammunition in order to be able to finish them off. One night they get caught in a trap when three Chiropterans attack them. But suddenly Saya and Hagi appear and save them.

Chevalier James and Van Argeno have almost completed their research. They have created a new breed of Chiropteran super soldier called the Corpse Army. They show them to important American politicians in order to sell them to the USA, as more and more chiropterans are appearing around the world and causing massacres.

Saya kills two of the Chiropterans, but the third escapes because she is too weak. Saya and Hagi accompany Kai and Lewis to the house of David's friend, who lives there with his family. The day after, the third chiropteran follows them and attacks David's friend's family. But Saya manages to kill him. Saya and Hagi then leave the house again.

The ships have also arrived in London. Two of them, Daazu and Gundolf, now also have the thorn stigma. They see Saya and Hagi, but do not make contact at first. In the warehouse in which they are hiding, they are attacked by the corpse army. During the fight, Moses and Karman realize that the "corpse warriors" were created in the image of Moses. In the midst of the intense fight, Lulu flees and fetches Saya and Hagi. When the three reach the battlefield, however, the battle is over. Daazu was killed in action and Gundolf was fatally wounded. When Lulu tries to protect him from the sunlight, he tells her that it no longer makes sense. Karman and Moses come back after narrowly escaping in battle. The evening after, the ships attack the museum where the corpse warriors are. With the help of Saya and Hagi, they kill one of the corpse warriors, but the other two escape. The ships, only three of them, assure Saya that they will help her in all future fights.

Diva and Karl also survived the fight on the burning ship. Diva has cut her hair short and dresses similarly to Riku. David, who has now renounced alcohol, visits Mao and the reporter, who can find out that Diva is about to give a concert and that Cinq Fleshe has specialized in food research in addition to biotechnology. Amshel orders the Chevalier James to destroy Saya, despite Karl's strong protests that he wants to destroy her. In an old theater, Nathan, James and Diva set a trap for their companions Hagi, Kai and Saya. James, now in his Chiropteran form, attacks the three. When transformed, he also looks very different from a normal chiropteran, similar to Karl. Even the three of them fail to defeat James. When he defeats Saya, he wants to kill her, but Nathan stops him. Nathan tells Saya that he will prepare a suitable stage for her death. Then he and James disappear. Diva left before.

Lewis forges an ID for David, who then breaks into a laboratory owned by Cinq Fleshe, where research is carried out on the army of corpses. There he also meets Julia. But his cover is blown and Van Argeno wants to take him prisoner with a security team. After a brief scuffle, David overpowers Van and takes him hostage to escape from the laboratory.

One of David's friend's children is celebrating his birthday one evening. And Saya and Hagi are there when suddenly Karl attacks. The Chevalier arrives with the five remaining soldiers of the corpse army and attacks the house in his Chiropteran form. Kai, David, Hagi and the ship take up the fight against the corpse warriors, while Saya fights against Karl. Karl, who has now realized that Diva has no affection for him, decides to let Saya kill him, but to drag her with him to death, because he suddenly thinks she is his soul mate. But Solomon appears and frees Saya from the grip of the dying Karl. Solomon is also the only Chevalier who is later saddened by Karl's death. Solomon reveals to Saya that Diva is on the island of Christina and then disappears again.

A few days later the companions travel to the island. After a brief briefing, they attack the island's building. Suddenly the corpse warriors reappear. However, Kai, Hagi and the ship can destroy all five. Meanwhile, Saya fights again against James, who is back in his Chiropteran form. Her sword blows and the bullets from Red Shield's weapons simply do not penetrate his armor, so James Saya is clearly superior. With a trick by Kai, the ship and Hagi manage to wound James, and Saya rams her sword into his open wounds, so that he begins to petrify. The wounded Chevalier wants to drag Saya with him to death and jumps into a deep shaft. Kai, who is holding her, is seriously injured. But then Solomon shows up. He found out that Diva has set a trap for the companions and has long since stopped on the island. In the meantime he is on the verge of changing sides for good, because again he saves Saya and Kai. In his Chiropteran form he flies into the shaft and catches Kai and Saya. Then he confesses his love to her and runs away again.

Later, Lewis and the reporter watch Amshel Goldsmith in a restaurant. He was murdered by the CIA, and one of the agents - disguised as a waiter - shoots Amshel several times with a pistol. But of course that can't kill the Chevalier. On the same day he gives a big party, at which Joel and David also sneak in. In the meantime, Saya, Kai, and Hagi have a great afternoon fishing with David's friend's family. Shortly afterwards, the companions travel to New York. Amshel mentions that James survived the fight and that Nathan was able to rescue him. In addition, he is now promoting Van Argeno to the new boss of Cinq Fleshe, as he no longer trusts Solomon.

Solomon meets Diva again. But after he explains to her that he loves Saya, she rejects him as a Chevalier and advises him to go his own way. Amshel attacks Solomon shortly afterwards. However, Nathan interrupts the fight. Nothing can kill the Chevaliers except Saya's blood, but in the end the senseless fight might destroy the house. In the meantime the CIA carried out a bomb attack on the reporter, who only narrowly escaped him by accident. The reason for this is that the reporter posted pictures of Amshel's failed murder on the Internet, which also showed the agents who arranged it.

Dr. Meanwhile, Collins is fired by Amshel. Instead, he hires Julia to treat Diva. Dr. Collins refuses to admit it and rioted in his office. Meanwhile, Julia discovers that Diva is having offspring. Amshel then explains to her the life cycle of the Chiropterans and that these children are the descendants of Riku. Later, Dr. Collins completely and threatens to shoot Julia. But David, who has observed both of them, prevents him from throwing a knife while Collins is pulling the trigger. Both are injured, but while Collins escapes, David is hospitalized.

Diva now wants to make Kai her chevalier too. Shortly before her concert, she has him brought to her trailer. He tells her that he will never be her chevalier for murdering his brother Riku. She then says that Riku lives on in her and shows him her pregnancy. Kai now realizes that Riku was not only murdered, but also raped. He draws his gun and can hardly control himself not to shoot her. Diva is not afraid of the pistol, of course, and continues to offer Kai to drink from her blood after the shot and become her Chevalier. When Kai refuses again, she threatens to kill him and eat him.

Diva then holds her concert. Some of the visitors who have eaten “special” Cinq Fleshe candy bars transform into chiropterans after hearing Diva's voice. They are just starting the massacre when the corpses arrive and destroy all the Chiropterans. After the concert, Saya and Hagi fight Diva and her Chevaliers. Both have no chance of winning, and Diva now wants to kill the defeated Saya. But then Solomon intervenes, who saves Saya, but immediately kidnaps her again.

Saya wakes up in Solomon's apartment. She puts on a dress that he has laid out for her. Solomon, whom Saya finds difficult to trust, confesses his love for her and that he wants to spend his life with her. Then Hagi shows up and attacks Solomon. A short fight follows, in which Solomon is significantly stronger. When Saya falls from the roof of a skyscraper, Hagi assumes his Chiropteran form and saves her. He tells her that he would never have changed his shape for her sake because she was terrified when she saw him transform for the first time. Saya tells Solomon that she is very grateful for his feelings for her and his help, but declines the offer to become his bride. She explains that Diva's death is the only thing that matters to her.

Moses and Lulu from the ship have since made friends with Kai. He regularly supplies them with blood so that they no longer have to kill people. In the meantime, Chevalier James has also awakened. His severely damaged body was replaced by body parts from the corpse army. However, Diva no longer accepts him and rejects him. She says out loud that she would rather have Kai as a Chevalier than him. Karman von den Schiff doesn't want to have anything to do with Kai or the other people. In addition, he has now also got the thorn stigma and will not live long. James visits the ship and tells Moses that the only way they can be healed is for them to become Divas Chevaliers. To do this, however, he demands from Moses that this Kai kill. Thereupon Moses goes out and attacks Kai with the intention of killing him. Meanwhile, Karman is on his way and wants to kill a nurse to eat. But suddenly the ghosts of Guy, Irene and the other ship appear and prevent him from doing so. When Karman returns, James is already waiting for him and tells him that he has tricked Moses. Kai fights with Moses and is able to defeat him because he is weakened by the sunlight. Still, he doesn't kill him. When Moses asks him why, Kai replies that he is his friend. Moses attacks Kai anyway, but Karman rushes to save him. He tells Moses that James tricked him. Moses, who cannot believe that he almost killed his friend Kai, apologizes and says goodbye. Together with Karman, who has almost died from the stigma of thorns, Moses stands in the sun and they both burn.

Mao kisses Kai shortly afterwards. When she realizes that he is not reciprocating her love, she gives up ever again to make him beautiful eyes. Kai and Saya spend a nice day together, and Saya keeps thinking about Hagi and the promise he once made to her: that he would kill her after she defeated Diva.

Meanwhile, the top management of Cinq Fleshe has a meeting with the US Department of Defense. The Americans are happy because with the Chiropterans they now have a weapon that can be used anywhere for their purposes. You can create Chiropteran at your own will and only destroy it again by the army of corpses. If any country opposed the US, they would simply release the Chiropterans in that country and refuse to use the Corpse Army. Rotes Schild, which has been re-established in the meantime, recognizes the real intentions of Diva and her Chevaliers: to populate the world with Chiropterans. Cinq Fleshe products contain a substance that causes the mutation when consumers hear Divas singing. Around three percent of the world's population has now consumed these products, which is why there would be millions of chiropterans within a few minutes. Julia, who has since returned to Red Shield, is feverishly trying to prevent this.

In the meantime, Diva and Riku's children have also been born. Both are still in cocoons, but Diva is still dragging them around in a baby basket. Solomon suddenly attacks Diva, because he wants to kill her, because he hopes this way to win Saya over. However, Diva is stronger and defeats him. Solomon is chained in the basement and James mocks him for killing Saya and bringing him her head. But Nathan frees Solomon so that he can do what his heart tells him to do. James attacks Saya and wants to kill her, but Saya, Hagi and Lulu fight James in his Chiropteran form. Neither of the three can do anything against the Chevalier until Solomon intervenes. He disarms James, who has seized Saya's sword, but James accidentally cuts Solomon with it. After Solomon brings James to his knees, he develops the thorn stigma. Severely weakened by this mysterious illness, it is easy for Saya to finally kill James. Solomon tells her that from now on he will be her Chevalier and that she should call him if she needs him. He then disappears into a dark alley, where he petrifies and dies.

Shortly before the concert, Nathan Amshel made hints that he had seen the world before Diva's appearance. He thinks that Diva and Saya's mother may have had chevaliers too. Meanwhile, Saya is very weak because her 30-year sleep phase is imminent. Nevertheless, she decides to fight Diva and her remaining Chevaliers. Amshel takes the form of Diva and fights Hagi and Saya, but changes into his true form in the fight.

In the meantime Diva has started to sing her song. The song is broadcast worldwide. Red shield blows up the transmitter, but Diva's song is then simply transmitted by the military satellites. All over the world, countless people turn into chiropterans, who watch Diva's concert in front of the television, and run amok; among them also Mui, who finally pronounces the name of Riku before she changes. In the theater, too, some people turn into chiropterans. Van Argeno was betrayed by the Chevaliers because he was not told that the Chiropterans would also appear in the theater, where he is now in great danger.

Hagi and Amshel fight in their Chiropteran forms in the air. Although Amshel is much larger, Hagi manages to defeat him for the time being and impale him on the top of a tower, which is immediately struck by lightning. Thereupon Hagi returns to the theater - very badly injured. The US Secretary of Defense refuses to save Argeno now that the Chiropterans have broken out everywhere because he is not an American. Thereupon he and his people disappear and leave Argeno alone. Shortly thereafter, however, David saved him.

Diva has long since finished her singing in the theater and is engaged in the long-awaited battle with Saya. Both fight doggedly and with full strength, but neither sister can defeat the other. Finally, they impale each other with their blood-soaked swords. But Diva's blood has since lost its effect because her babies were born, as Nathan explains to the dying girl. Saya's blood is still working, and so Diva begins to petrify. Saya asks her dying sister to take her with her to death, but she just takes one look at her daughters, who have now slipped out of their cocoons, and dies. Thereupon Nathan also changes into his Chiropteran form. He asks Saya to kill him because he can no longer fulfill his job as Divas Chevalier. Moreover, only through his death can their wish of the Chiropterans be fulfilled. Saya soaks her sword with her blood again and almost cuts Nathan in half, but his body does not petrify.

Now Saya wants to kill the two children of Riku and Diva and then to be killed by Hagi. Kai shows up and asks them to spare the children and to stay alive themselves. Saya explains to him that humanity will only be safe again when the Chiropterans are extinct. But Kai argues that Diva was only bad because of her bad treatment and that she is good, so is Hagi, and the children are sure to be too. Hagi also refuses - for the first time - her order and asks her to go on living. Saya then gives up her plans and says that she wants to live again. Hagi and Saya kiss. Amshel reappears. He wants to kidnap the children and use them for his experiments. But Hagi attacks him to stop him. He rams Saya's sword into his body and Amshel begins to petrify. Knowing that he will soon die, Amshel holds Hagi tight and wants to drag him to his death. Hagi confesses his love to Saya, and suddenly the wall gives way and buries them both under it. Red sign then flees from this place, because the US Air Force bombs the theater to cover all traces.

A few months later, Kai and Saya are back in Okinawa. The explosion of the theater is covered up as an act of terrorism; Van Argeno is arrested and now has to answer for his actions. Nathan also survived; he can be seen among the journalists who report on the arrest of Argenos. David and Julia became a couple, and Julia is pregnant too. Kai has reopened his father's restaurant. Mao and the reporter are traveling the world together again, and Red Shield has nothing more to do either. Because after Diva's death, the rate of newly created chiropterans fell to almost zero percent. The rest were presumably all defeated by the corpse army. The life of Lulu - the last of the ships - can apparently be extended a little. But Saya is still unhappy. She thinks that Hagi was killed in the bombing of the theater. Kai, however, is convinced that he is still alive and will one day return to her. After a big party at which all survivors of the adventure celebrate, Saya falls back into her long sleep. Kai takes her to the family grave, where she will rest again for 30 years.

About five years later Kai is back at the grave with his two nieces, Rikus and Diva's daughters. In front of the grave lies a rose with a ribbon wrapped around it. Hagi survived and he visited Saya's resting place, where he will wait for her again when she wakes up.

Creatures

Chiropteran queens
The queens are the original Chiropterans. They are the beginning of the Chiropterans species. All other specimens were created from their blood and were once human. For biological reasons, queens are always born as twins. The current queens in the storyline are Saya and Diva. The queens stop aging from the biological age of 16 years. They are much faster, stronger and more persistent than humans, their reflexes and senses are much sharper, and their wounds - even those that would be fatal to humans - heal after a few seconds. The queens have different eye colors. One of them can make their eyes glow red, the other blue. When the queens are around 60 years of age, they enter a long sleep cycle that lasts for around 30 years. During sleep, a cocoon forms around the queens. The cocoon apparently absorbs their clothes because every time Saya or Diva woke up they were naked. The queens fall regularly into this sleep cycle, but their waking phase is only a few years. How the Chiropterans came about, whether they evolved from humans or whether they existed long before humans, remains completely unclear. One queen's blood is fatal to the other. If the blood mixes, it immediately begins to petrify. So one queen can kill the other, and also all the Chiropterans that she has created, since these also have their blood in them. However, the blood loses its effectiveness when one of the queens is pregnant. But they can only get pregnant from the other queen's chevalier. To what extent the queens can change their external shape is still completely unclear. Diva looks very European, while Saya looks more Asian, with both sisters. Both are apparently also bound to the human form, whereas their mother - whose mummy was found - had the shape of a chiropteran.
Chiropteran Chevaliers
The Chevaliers used to be human. The queens make chevaliers out of people because they are their servants, bodyguards and lovers. To become a Chevalier, a queen gives a (basically male) human being to drink her blood. The person then lies in a coma-like state for a few hours or days before waking up again as a Chevalier. Just like the queens, they are physically far superior to humans. To kill a Chevalier, it must come into contact with the blood of another queen, or be immediately fatally injured, e.g. B. Decapitation or extensive burning. As a Chevalier, a person no longer ages, nor does he need food or sleep. Chevaliers can make weapons from their body parts, such as: B. Solomon, who in battle usually shaped one of his arms into a kind of sword. Chevaliers can change shape quite a lot, and even imitate other people. Chevaliers also have the ability to transform into a Chiropteran figure. In this, however, they look much more individual than ordinary chiropterans, are usually a bit larger and keep their human mind. In her Chiropteran form her skin is as hard as steel, which greatly reduces the effects of pistol bullets, sword blows, etc. In addition, the Chevaliers are still a lot stronger in this state than in the human form. Hagi is an exception. In his Chiropteran form, he looks almost exactly the same as in his human form, except that instead of hands he has Chiropteran claws and bat wings. The relationship between a queen and a chevalier is shaped differently. James saw Diva as a kind of mother, while Amshel saw herself as her owner. However, there is a bond of love between Saya and Hagi, just as Riku and Saya love each other (fraternal), which suggests that there is usually a strong affection between the Queen and Chevalier.
The ship / corpse army
These are artificial chevaliers, which were created by the Cinq Fleshe to be docile soldiers. The ships were probably created by Amshel and several people in the period between the two world wars. However, they have several weaknesses compared to the real Chevaliers. They are much weaker than these (but still much stronger than humans and common chiropterans) and cannot change shape. In addition, they - like classic vampires - are harmed by sunlight. On direct contact, the ships burn in green flames. Their greatest weakness, however, is the thorn stigma. After a while it spreads as a red pattern on the body of the ship (usually it starts at the neck), and shortly afterwards it petrifies and dies in great agony. The ship cannot form weapons from her body, except for the ability to shoot large red thorns. Therefore, over time, they have specialized in conventional weapons, which they always carry with them. All ships also have green eyes. The Corpse Army is the improved and final version of the ship, which has no feelings or personality of its own. They don't seem to have a problem with sunlight or thorn stigma either.
Chiropterans
These beings were once human. They were all unsuccessful attempts to create artificial Chevaliers out of humans. The transformation into a Chevalier was only partially successful. These Chiropterans are also virtually immortal and can heal themselves quickly and are also much stronger and faster than humans, but there are problems. The Chiropterans remain trapped in their form and cannot transform back into their human form. The Chiropterans look very similar, almost like one egg to the next. They have also lost their emotions and a large part of human intelligence. You can e.g. B. no longer speak and apparently have no memory of their human existence. They only have the most basic animal instincts. While queens and chevaliers often drink human blood, these chiropterans sometimes also eat human flesh. These Chiropterans are created from the product Delta 67, which was obtained from Diva's blood. If you take Delta 67, the probability of becoming a Chiropteran is around three percent. However, if that person hears Diva's singing shortly afterwards, the probability rises to almost 100 percent. A chiropteran cannot transform either, with the exception of changing his arms to bat wings and turning them back again. Since they were created from diva's blood, Saya can kill them with their blood. Another way to kill them is hard to find. Except for decapitation, a powerful explosion, or other instantly fatal injury, they can hardly be harmed. After Diva's death, the rate of formation of this type of chiropteran is almost zero.

Characters

Saya Otonashi
She is an original Chiropteran and was born out of a cocoon in 1833 with her sister Diva. Joel Goldschmidt raised her like his own daughter and treated her like a person. In 1870 Amshel bought a 12-year-old boy named Hagi from his parents, who were presumably gypsies (traveling people), as Hagi suggests in the anime. Hagi is supposed to be Saya's servant, but they both become friends. Later she makes him her chevalier. Saya grew up in the zoo until 1883, when she released Diva who killed everyone there. That was the reason for Saya to spend her waking phases chasing Diva and killing the Chiropterans she had created. Saya is an athlete and has a katana (Japanese sword) with a blood channel. She cuts her thumb before every fight and lets her blood flow into this groove. This makes the sword a dangerous weapon for any chiropteran created by Diva. The anime begins in 2005, at which point Saya is a teenage girl in Okinawa high school who can't remember anything more than a year ago. She lives with her adoptive father George and her two adoptive brothers Kai and Riku. Later in the story, after Riku's death, Saya gets darker and harder, and shows fewer feelings. Only shortly after the fight with Diva, when Hagi kisses her, does her previous personality return.
Hagi
He is the Chevalier of Saya. In 1870 he was bought by his parents to serve as a companion for Saya. He lived with Saya as a person for 13 years. He notices that she doesn't age and that her injuries heal in a short time. Nevertheless, he is not afraid of her and stays by her side. In 1883 he fell off a cliff when, at Saya's request, he was supposed to pick a flower for Joel. When Saya sees the badly injured Hagi, she infuses him with her blood and makes him a Chevalier. Later she is sorry that she stole his human life and made it her Chevalier. But Hagi assures her that he doesn't mind and that he can be with her forever. Hagi plays the cello and always carries his musical instrument around with him in a large, heavy case. He often uses this case as a blunt weapon or protective shield when he is fighting. Sometimes he also fights with a handful of silver daggers that he uses as throwing weapons. Unlike Diva's Chevaliers, Hagi never completely transforms into his Chiropteran form. But that's not his weakness, it's his own decision. Only late in the story does he break with it and transform itself to the point where you can see bat wings and chiropteran claws. Only his right hand is permanently trapped in the shape of a Chiropteran claw. Saya cut the hand off once, and when it grew back it appeared to be unable to take on human form. To hide this, Hagi almost always wears a bandage around his right hand. He finally confesses his love for Saya after they both kiss. He is then attacked by Amshel, and both are buried under the rubble of the collapsing theater. Saya thinks he is dead, but in the last episode a rose with a bow lies in front of the family grave in which Saya sleeps. That speaks very well that Hagi survived and is waiting for his lover.
Kai Miyagusuku
Kai is Saya's older adoptive brother. He is known in school for having a lot of fights. Shortly before Saya's arrival, he stops playing baseball. After his adoptive father, George, dies, Kai accompanies Saya and Riku and wants to keep his "family" together. He always has his father's pistol with him to use it to fight the Chiropterans. For this purpose he can later even make explosive ammunition. He improves his martial arts and shooting skills after his brother Riku is raped and killed. As a souvenir of him he carries a red crystal with him, which comes from the body of Riku. Kai also gave the impulse to form an alliance with the ship and not fight them any more. At the end of the row, he persuades Hagi to confess his feelings to Saya. And at the end of the day, he raises Riku and Diva's children as if they were his own.
Riku Miyagusuku
He is the youngest in George's family. He is a friendly, intelligent boy who loves to cook. His friendly and gentle nature even rubs off a little on Hagi, who previously seemed very distant. This leads to Hagi teaching him how to play the cello and saving him from serious injury when a chiropteran in Siberia pulls him off the train. Diva attacks him at the zoo and drinks a large part of his blood. In order to save him from death, Saya makes him her chevalier at Kai's request. At first, Kai can't cope with the fact that Riku is no longer human, but quickly gets used to it. Shortly thereafter, he is raped by Diva and then killed by giving him her blood to drink. In the "light novels" the brutal rape of the little boy is "softened" to the extent that Riku felt an "irresistible longing" for Diva because of his Chevalier blood when he looked into her eyes. And that a similar desire is actually responsible for Solomon's later infatuation with Saya.
David
He is the only survivor of a Chiropteran attack, and after that, he joins the Red Shield. Just like his father before. He seems cold and distant, but that changes when he has to take care of Kai and Riku. After Red Shield is destroyed, he falls into a deep depression and becomes an alcoholic. But he later gets up again and becomes an active fighter when the Red Shield is re-established.
Lewis
He used to be a CIA agent but has joined Red Shield. In the plot he often organizes bombs and weapons. He often works with David, later also with Kai.
Van Argeno
He is a French who was responsible for the development of Delta 67. He later becomes the boss of Cinq Fleshe after Solomon deserted. Van Argeno helps with the plans to populate the world with Chiropterans, but is betrayed in the end and is left on his own in the theater with the Chiropterans. After David saves him, he comes to court to answer for what he has done. You can often see him eating candy.
diva
She was born in a cocoon in 1833 as Saya's younger twin sister. While Saya grew up like a human, Diva was locked in a cage and had to be used for experiments. Amshel was the only one she could see, and she developed an affection for him. Because of this, she later made him her first Chevalier. At the time of the plot, she still has five Chevaliers alive. Diva is very ruthless, callous and brutal, but hides this - more badly than right - behind her childlike behavior. She giggles when she's killed someone, doesn't seem to care about the death of her Chevaliers, and brutally rapes Riku. When she is bored, she randomly destroys objects. The only thing she really enjoys is torturing Saya. As the second Chiropteran queen and the origin of all other Chiropterans, she is the main enemy of Red Shield. In the end, Nathan says that she only wanted one family from the start and that she might not have become so cruel if she had grown up like Saya. She is killed by Saya and takes one last loving look at her daughters and the two cocoons.
Amshel Goldsmith
He is Diva's first Chevalier. She turned into after killing everyone else in the zoo in 1883. Amshel is very power-obsessed, and the boss of Cinq Fleshe. He is callous and regards Diva and the other Chiropterans as his subjects. Apparently he is also the leader of the other Chevaliers, but he feels little regret if one of them dies. He also tells Saya in Liza's form that she is also a Chiropteran and asks her to join Diva. In the end he is killed by Hagi in the collapsing theater where Diva sang.
Solomon Goldsmith
He was a doctor in 1917 and Diva made him her fourth Chevalier. He only wears white as long as he's with Diva, since he also wore white when she transformed him. At first he sees humans as lower creatures, since they always wage wars, but later he realizes that the world of the Chiropterans is also full of wars. He falls in love with Saya and therefore protects her several times from his brothers. In the end he even leaves Diva to be with her. In order to finally signal the break, it then wears black. He later dies shortly after fighting with James.
Karl Fei-Ong
He is Diva's fifth Chevalier. In 1917 she transformed him because she thought he was cute. However, Amshel later notes that he only had Karl transformed because he wanted to use him for experiments. In 1972 he lost an arm in a fight with Saya. Amshel builds him a new arm that resembles that of a ship. Karl developed a strong hatred of Saya and slowly came closer to madness because Diva did not show him the affection he had hoped for from her. Disguised as a "phantom", Karl killed the girls at the girls' boarding school who looked like Saya. In the end he dies fighting with Saya, although he confesses that he loves her (because she is the only one who can understand his loneliness) and actually wants to die with her. Solomon regrets his death.
James Ironside
He is Diva's sixth Chevalier. He was a US soldier and was transformed by Diva in 1945. He later becomes the leader of the corpse army and is given the task of killing Saya. He regards Diva as a kind of mother and always carries a picture of her with him. On the island of Christina, James is severely mutilated by Saya and - like Karl before - gets body parts that look similar to those of the corpse army. He ends up getting the thorn stigma and then dies fighting with Saya.
Nathan Mahler
He is also a Chevalier of Diva. He is calm and reserved, but does not allow himself to be ordered around. Unlike Diva's other Chevaliers, Nathan almost never fights. Even so, he almost seems like the strongest Chevalier of all. In addition, he either has telekinesis or can move really immensely fast. He breaks Amshel's glass, Solomon's chains, and steals James' silver pendant several times without any movement on his part being seen. In addition, Nathan behaves very "unmanly", he shows a soft, almost feminine behavior, which leads many fans to suspect that he could be homosexual. In the end, he offers Saya to kill him and changes to his Chiropteran form. In the last episode, however, you can see him in his human form among the reporters who report on the arrest of Van Argeno. Even in his Chiropteran form he is not petrified, although he clearly came into contact with Saya's blood. That gave rise to wild guesswork among fans. So there are theories that Nathan could be a Chevalier created by Saya's blood of Amshel. Or that he was the chevalier of Divas and Saya's mother. Or her aunt's chevalier and maybe even their father's. In fact, he notes in the anime that the mother of the two queens could have had chevaliers too. The "Light Novels" show how the real Nathan Mahler is killed by a surviving Chevalier's mother, who simply takes his form and takes his place among Divas Chevaliers.

Supporting characters

George Miyagusuku
He is the adoptive father of Saya, Kai and Riku. He lost his wife and biological daughter in a car accident. He is also one of the few survivors of a unit in Vietnam who were attacked by Saya's while she ran amok. He is injured by a chiropteran and later subjected to the Delta 67 project. This leads to the fact that he begins to transform into a Chiropteran. He asks Saya beforehand, however, that she kill him with her blood because he still wants to die as a human being.
Akihiro Okamura
He's a reporter who likes to come across as tired and cynical, and is apparently also a chain smoker. His father took photos of Saya and some chiropterans in Vietnam. When he can finally take some photos of Saya, who is fighting with Karl. That makes him pursue this lead. Mao finally forces him to take her with him as she finances his trip.
Mao Jahana
She is a schoolgirl who is in love with Kai and therefore follows him after he disappears. She is bossy and likes to be in control, she is also rather stubborn, strong-willed and likes to put on a brave facade. She forces reporter Okamura to take her with him while he is researching and steals 50 million yen from her father, a head of the yakuza. When it becomes clear that Kai will not return her love, she gives up all efforts to pursue him further.
Julia Silberstein
She is a scientist who works for Rotes Schild. Together with Dr. Collins reveals her to Red Shield and goes to Cinq Fleshe, but only at his urging. There she does research on the chiropterans and after Riku's rape becomes Diva's personal doctor who determines her pregnancy. Shortly thereafter, she also researched the creation of the corpse army. Only at the end does she leave Cinq Fleshe and return to Red Shield.
Joel Goldschmidt VI
He is the descendant of the first Joel Goldschmidt who raised Saya and Diva in his zoo. Every man in his family named Joel must continue the work of Red Shield to destroy the Chiropterans until they are no longer a threat. In “Joel's Diary” he keeps records of the Chiropterans and the Red Shield. He is seriously injured in an attack by Karl and is later paraplegic.
Aston Collins
He is a scientist who initially works for Rotes Schild. Frustrated that his research should never be published, he lets Van Argeno poach him and reveals to Rotes Schild. When Julia later becomes Diva's personal doctor in his place, he becomes angry and jealous and wants to kill her. David, who accepts a serious injury, finally saves Julia and injures Aston Collins as well. He then runs away screaming. His whereabouts are unknown.
Grigory Rasputin
He is Diva's second Chevalier. In 1918 he lived in a small village in the Soviet Union. He continued to research the Chiropterans there and may even have been involved in the creation of the ship. For this purpose he had assumed the form of the girl Sonya. When Saya and Hagi recognize his identity, they fight against him. Before that, however, he helps Amshel and the diva, who has already fallen asleep, to escape. In the ensuing fight, Hagi is seriously injured, but he and Saya manage to kill Grigori.
Martin Bormann
He is Diva's third Chevalier. In the whole anime he is mentioned only once by Amshel and can be seen on an old photo from 1917, on which Solomon, Amshel and Karl can also be seen. When Saya killed him is unclear.
Moses
He is a member of the ship and its leader at that. He persuaded the other ships to believe in hope and flee the laboratory in which they were created. Later he becomes friends with Kai. However, he wants to kill him when James promises him help against the thorn stigma that has afflicted Karman. Horrified that Moses betrayed his only human friend, wanted to kill him, and fell for James, he and Karman expose himself to sunlight and die.
Karman
He is also one of the ship. He is tall and slim and appears very hot-headed and impulsive. He seems particularly aggressive towards people, but genuinely cares about his other friends from the ship. When he is attacked by the thorn stigma, he saves Kai from being killed by Moses and allows himself to be burned by the sun with him.
Lulu
She also belongs to the ship. She is a little girl who seems loving and innocent. She is the most human of all ships. In the end she is also the only survivor, so that she later lives with Red Shield and goes into battle with them. In the end Julia finds a remedy that can save Lulu from death from the thorn stigma.
Irene
She too is one of the ships. In contrast to the others, however, she is mentally tormented by killing people and drinking their blood. This leads to the fact that she eats less and less and is ultimately very weak. When she is attacked by the thorn stigma, she befriends Kai. He finally persuades Saya to give Irene her blood, which might cure the thorn stigma. But when Saya does it, Irene dies immediately. Besides the ship, Kai is also very upset about her death. When the ship realizes from Irene's death that they need Diva's blood, they ally themselves with Red Shield.
Both daughters of Riku and Diva
Diva becomes pregnant after Riku is raped and gives birth to both babies as cocoons a year later. She is extremely worried about the two of them and can no longer wait for their birth. However, they do not slip out of the cocoons until shortly after Diva's death. Saya wants to kill her first, but Hagi and Kai persuade her not to do it. Later, Kai raises them like his own children. These two will be the next generation of Chiropteran queens.
