KK Aniplex ( Japanese 株式会社 ア ニ プ レ ッ ク ス , Anipurekkusu Kabushiki kaisha , English Aniplex Inc. ) produces and sells animes and related products such as music and merchandising.

The company was founded in September 1995 as a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan under the name KK SPE Music Publishing ( 株式会社 SPE ・ ミ ュ ー ジ ッ ク パ ブ リ ッ シ ン グ ). In January 1997 the name was changed to KK SPE Visualworks ( 株式会社 SPE ・ ビ ジ ュ ア ル ワ ー ク ス ) and after the complete takeover by Sony Music Entertainment Japan in January 2001 to KK SME Visualworks ( 株式会社 SME ・ ビ ジ ュ ア ル ワ ー ク ス ) and finally to in April 2003 KK Aniplex .

The first anime production was the series Rurouni Kenshin , which aired from January 1996, and the first film Rurōni Kenshin - Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Ishin Shishi e no Requiem from December 1997.

100% subsidiaries are the animation studio A-1 Pictures , the mobile phone software developer Banchō Seisakujo and the US distributor Aniplex of America Inc.
