( Jap. 劇場版空の境界第一章俯瞰風景 , Gekijōban Kara no Kyokai Dai Issho: Fukan Fukei ., Dt "Overview of the scenery") is the first anime - film from a film series that on of Kinoko Nasu is based on the light novel series Kara no Kyōkai - the Garden of sinners . In the middle of the plot of the book series, which was also not published chronologically, the film begins at the point where the protagonist Shiki already has full control over her ability to see the death and souls of the deceased. When a series of suicides among young schoolgirls throws the city into turmoil, Mikiya, Shiki's closest friend, tries to get to the bottom of the problem. He falls into a kind of coma, which causes Shiki to go to the scene of the incident himself. There she sees the ghosts of the deceased girls circling over an abandoned skyscraper. On her way through the building she is attacked by one of the ghosts who gets her prosthetic arm under control. Forced to destroy them, she withdraws.
In the shop of the magician Tōko, she has a new arm made. Meanwhile, the film leaves a lot of time to watch her doing everyday things that she only has to do with one arm. Equipped with an arm replacement, she faces the ghosts and this time also manages to kill the ghost of the leader Kirie and thus break the spell that lies on Mikiya. Meanwhile, the still living "body" of Kirie is found by Tōko. After a conversation with Kirie, who is confined to bed and who has been in hospital for ages, Tōko decides not to do anything. As a result of her robbed soul and the lack of opportunity to enjoy the view over the city, Kirie finally throws herself from the building.

Fukan Fūkei was the first film in a series of seven anime films that appeared in the light novel series Kara no Kyōkai - the Garden of sinners . After the original goal of producing a television series had failed due to the author's concerns, Katsushi Ōta from Kōdansha offered the author another offer. When Kinoko Nasu accepted this, the production of the film series began in cooperation with Aniplex and Ufotable .
Emergence
Kinoko, who disliked this section of his book, wanted to rewrite the plot himself. But when he discovered that the film's producers had freed the plot from almost half of the "ballast" and wrote what he thought was a neat plot, he dropped this thought.

The script itself was written by Masaki Hiramatsu and filmed by director Ei Aoki . The design of the characters was taken from the illustration of the light novel , the drawings of which were made by Takashi Takeuchi . The background music was produced by the well-known composer Yuki Kajiura . As a member of the group Kalafina , to which the singers Wakana Ōtaki and Keiko Kubota also belonged, she was also involved in the production of the theme song oblivious .

Publications
The film premiered in Japanese cinemas on December 1, 2007. The DVD for the film was released on May 21, 2008 and contained both the film on DVD and a CD with the soundtrack for the first chapter in a double pack. On September 24, 2010, the Kazé Germany label released the film under the title the Garden of sinners Film 1 - Thanatos. on DVD, the soundtrack CD is included with the original Japanese publication.
On July 13, 2013, a 3D remake called Gekijōban Kara no Kyōkai: Fukan Fūkei 3D ( 劇場版 空 の 境界 俯瞰 風景 3D ) was released.
reception
According to a report in the Shinjuku Keizai , the Shinjuku cinema had been completely occupied by the film since December 1st. In this cinema alone, more than 20,000 visitors visited the film within the first four weeks. This set a new attendance record in the cinema and also resulted in the introduction of originally unplanned morning screenings and standing room allowed even at the request of the audience. The franchises in the cinemas also met with great sales; An additional issue with explanations and interviews about the film sold more than 12,000 times in the same period.
The DVD sold more than any other anime DVD in Japan in the week ending June 2, 2008, according to Oricon weekly statistics .
