Rocky and his friends ( Japanese 山 ね ず み ロ ッ キ ー チ ャ ッ ク, Yama Nezumi Rokkī Chakku, English title: Fables of the Green Forest or Johnny Chuck ) is an anime series from 1973. The story is based on the books by Thornton W. Burgess .

The marmot Rocky lives with other animals in the forest and experiences various adventures with them. Rocky's friends include Peter the rabbit , Sammy the jay and Polly the female marmot. The animals have unique characteristics that distinguish them. The series is intended to show in a child-friendly way how living together can work.
Production and publication
The series was produced in Japan in 1973. This resulted in 52 episodes. The studio Zuiyo Enterprise , predecessor of Nippon Animation, was responsible for the production. Directed by Tadamichi Koga and Seiji Endō , the main screenwriter was Yūji Tanno . The character design comes from Yasuji Mori and the artistic direction was Kazue Itō .
The music in the series was composed by Morihisa Yamamoto and Seiichirō Uno . The opening song is titled Midori no Hidamari and the ending song is Rocky and Polly , both by Micchī to Chatarazu.
The series was first broadcast on January 7, 1973 on the Japanese television channel Fuji Television . The German first broadcast took place in 1997 on Bayerischer Rundfunk and was shown on Pumuckl TV . There were other broadcasts on Das Erste , KIKA , Hr-fernsehen , ORB-Fernsehen and EinsMuXx . The anime was also televised in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and Portuguese.
