world

10,000 years after people left Earth, they settle on a planet they call the "Promised Land". Much of the surface is rock-like. This mass, also called Scub Coral, probably makes up the entire planet and was recognized as a living being by the military technician Adroc Thurston. This discovery is kept secret from the population. This mass has several manifestations called Coralians. One forms the central organ of thought, another, the Kute-class Coralian, which consists of energy concentrated in the atmosphere. This can also ward off attacks on the body of the living being. Other forms act as humanoids to learn more about humans.

Through this living being, the atmosphere is permeated with energy particles and currents, which are called trapar. These are used in particular to drive on them with airships or to "surf" on them with LFOs. LFO, "Light Finding Operation", refers to mechas, huge humanoid robots that are controlled by humans inside them. Military LFOs are also called KLFs, "Force Light Fighters".

On the planet there are the Vodarac among the religious groups who see the Trapar as thoughts of the living being in the planet. You want to protect the planet as it is also a living being. Because of some extremist factions of the religion this is classified by the government as a dangerous group and is combated. An important city for the Vodarac is Ciudades del Cielo.

In addition to the Vodarac, there is also the rebel group Gekkostate around Holland Novak. This is a group of LFO pilots who roam the planet on the battleship Gekko-Go.

action

Renton Thurston, 14, lives with his grandfather in an LFO workshop in Bellforest, where Renton is bored. He is enthusiastic about Holland's Gekkostate and their magazine ray = out . His grandfather doesn't like to see it as his father died in the adventure and his sister Diane disappeared. One day when the young Eureka flies into the workshop with her LFO Nirvash, Renton's grandfather asks her never to come back. But Renton has fallen in love with her, rushes to her aid and brings her the Amita-Drive, an extension for the Nirvash that he received from his grandfather. In the cockpit of the Nirvash, the Amita Drive surprisingly releases a great destructive force, the Seven Swell Effect. When he is brought back to his grandfather from Holland and Eureka, he learns that the Nirvash was once built by his father. He then accepts Eureka's offer and joins the Gekkostate who live on board the battleship Gekko.

But Renton is also tormented by boredom on the Gekko, as he has not yet found the right place in the team. He doesn't get along with all parts of the team and his love for Eureka remains unrequited. The crew is also mostly busy getting money, as there is often a shortage of it. Your children, in turn, see it as a nuisance. That only changes when Renton steals the Nirvash to shut down the army's radar. For this, however, he was given ten days of solitary confinement. By feigning extradition of an anti-government Vodarac to the army, the team can raise money from the military. When the Vodarac are safe after Ciudades del Cielo, Renton learns of Eureka's past, in which she went through a lot. Because of his commitment to protecting Ciudades del Cielo, Renton is now a full member of the team.

When the Gekko enters a mysterious Coralian cloud, Eureka is barely able to control her LFO. She moves out with Renton and in the cloud they meet an army KLF. When the cloud clears, Renton still manages to supply Eureka with medicine and to disappear with her and the Nirvash before the area is shelled by the army and Holland. Eureka is slow to recover. While they are procuring raw materials for the repair of the Gekko, Eureka is doing worse again. She is dismissive of Renton and they argue. When the crew is attacked by the army, Eureka disappears with the Nirvash and Renton follows her. He finds her, can barely save her and uses an unusual force again. But then both get into an argument again.

Since he is now no longer allowed to approach Eureka in order not to burden her any further, and the rest of the team also stay away from him, he leaves the Gekkostate. For a short time he finds accommodation with the couple Charles and Ray Beam, but soon learns that they work for the government and that their goal is to destroy Gekkostate. Although Ray and Charles were like real parents to him, Renton also leaves their ship to return to the Gekkostate, as he realizes again how important Eureka is to him. When Eureka learns that Renton has left the team, she blames herself and the others realize that she has fallen in love with him. Holland therefore starts looking for Renton. At the same time he meets the farmer William, who rescued him after he was stranded at his farm when he had left the beams and wandered aimlessly through the wilderness. Williams' wife suffers from the so-called desperate illness, in which the sick person sits around frozen the whole time and stares at a Compac Drive. So when Renton asks William what was wrong with his wife, William tells him his and her life story. After Renton recovers, he leaves Williams Farm to continue searching for the Gekkostate. Meanwhile, Holland does not get any further with his search for Renton, as the whole airspace near the Gekko is occupied by the military. Therefore, he returns to the Gekko without Renton and now has to tell Eureka that he has not found Renton, whereupon she is devastated and therefore goes to look for him herself.

After traveling with her reffboard for a while, Eureka is discovered by the military and said to be captured. Eureka and Holland are both former members of a military special task force, the SOF, and Holland had kidnapped Eureka from the military at the time to protect her from being used in further atrocities. Renton has already reached the Gekko and learns that Eureka has gone to look for him. He then uses the Nirvash to save her from the military KLFs. After both of them sit in the cockpit of the Nirvash, they use the Amita Drive to disable all KLFs of the military, whereupon the military finally withdraws and they can return to the Gekko.
