history

TV Asahi broadcasting center

The company was founded on November 1st, 1959 under the name Nihon Kyōiku Terebi ( 株式会社 日本 教育 テ レ ビ , Kabushiki-gaisha Nihon Kyōiku Terebi , English Nihon Educational Television Co., Ltd. , abbreviated to: NET). July 1957 the provisional license to broadcast a program. The goal was to provide a commercial educational television program, which is still a rarity in the television industry today. At that time, the broadcaster's license stipulated that at least 50 percent of the broadcasting time was devoted to educational programs and that the educational program for children was at least 30 percent of the total broadcasting time. However, this model turned out to be a flaw.

In 1960, NET changed its policy on general television programming. The station started broadcasting anime and foreign films very early on . In order not to completely lose its reputation as an "educational broadcaster" and to meet the requirements of the TV license, NET broadcast the programs under the titles "Expanding the emotional perception of a child" and "Introducing foreign cultures". At the same time, the station renamed itself from Nihon Educational Television to NET TV ( NET テ レ ビ , NET terebi ).

Seven years later (1967), NET TV began broadcasting the first color television program.

The conversion of the program to a general television program was not completed until November 1973 when NET acquired a general television program license together with the educational channel Channel 12 (now known as TV Tokyo ). At the same time there was another renaming to NET General Television ( 総 合 局 NET ), which was followed on April 1, 1977 by another renaming to Asahi National Broadcasting Company Limited ( 全国 朝日 放送 株式会社 , Zenkoku Asahi Hōsō Kabushiki-gaisha ).

In 1996 the All-Nippon News Network (ANN) ( オ ー ル ル ッ ポ ン ニ ュ ー ス ・ ネ ッ ト ワ ー ク , Ōru Nippon Nyūsu Nettowāku ) was founded and a number of reforms began, such as the unification of local networks. The company has been listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange since October 2000 .

On October 1, 2003, the headquarters of Ark Hills Studio was relocated to Roppongi Hills ( 六 本 木 ヒ ル ズ ). The new main building was designed by Fumihiko Maki . At the same time, the company was renamed TV Asahi Corporation and has since been represented under the tv asahi brand . At that time the company had approximately 1,300 employees and financial deposits valued at JPY 36,642,800,000 .

With the broadcast of international water sports competitions or games of the soccer world championship and a popular late night show program, TV Asahi managed to jump to position two of the most watched TV programs in Japan, just behind Fuji TV .

The analog antenna broadcast was discontinued on July 24, 2011.

Others

In 1990, out of joy at the German reunification , the station launched a fundraising campaign called the Sakura Campaign . It generated around one million euros, with which over 10,000 Japanese cherry trees were planted in Berlin and the surrounding area by 2010 .
