The women's half marathon at the 2016 European Athletics Championships took place on July 10, 2016 in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam . This distance was for the first time in the program of European Athletics Championships. The competition came into the program instead of the marathon because of the Olympic Games taking place in a few weeks .
In this competition, the Portuguese long-distance runners won two gold and bronze medals. The European champion was Sara Moreira , who had won two medals over 5000 meters each with silver ( 2010 ) and bronze ( 2012 ) at previous European championships . Silver went to the Italian Veronica Inglese . The 2014 European Championship third in the Jéssica Augusto marathon came third here too.
For the team ranking, the times of the three best runners per nation were added up. However, the evaluation was not part of the official medal table. The team from Portugal won ahead of Italy and Turkey.

The half marathon took place on a circuit in the city center of Amsterdam. Start and finish were at the Rijksmuseum .
