The women's 400-meter hurdles at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held from July 8th to 10th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .

European champion was Sara Slott Petersen from Denmark . The second place went to the Polish Joanna Linkiewicz . The Swiss Léa Sprunger won the bronze medal.

For this discipline, a new competition mode was used for the first time. The eleven strongest athletes on the European annual best list did not have to compete in the preliminary round, but only entered in the semi-finals.
