Among others, World Champion - among the favorites were primarily the Czech Zuzana Hejnová 2015 , Olympic Fourth of 2016 , EM -Vierte of 2010 / 2012 , the Swiss Léa Sprunger as WM -Fünfte of 2017 and EM -Third of 2016 the British, Eilidh Doyle - World Cup sixth from 2015 and European Champion from 2014 as well as the Danish European Champion from 2016 Sara Slott Petersen, who was already eliminated in the semifinals. Hejnová, who was so successful in recent years, did not reach the final this time either.

The race stayed open for a long time. At the beginning of the finish curve there was an easy lead by Ukrainian Hanna Ryschykowa. But here Sprunger had a very strong phase and came into the home straight as the front runner. Just behind her were Ryschykowa and the British Meghan Beesley now. Then Doyle followed at close intervals as well as Yadisleidy Pedroso, who started for Cuba and now for Italy. Wera Rudakowa, who ran under a neutral flag, and the Belgian Hanne Claes were only a little back. In the last hundred meters, Léa Sprunger had the best stamina and crossed the finish line as European champion. Hanna Ryschykowa came a little closer at the end, but for her it was only enough to get silver. Meghan Beesley held her third place behind. Hanne Claes came fourth ahead of Yadisleidy Pedroso and Wera Rudakowa.
