qualification

August 7, 2018, 7:05 p.m. CEST

The German Jacqueline Otchere crossed the ultimately necessary 4.35 m, but had two failed attempts and was therefore eliminated
4.35 m was not enough for the Finn Minna Nikkanen to take part in the finals because she had previously failed twice
For French Marion Lotout, 4.35 m in her second attempt was not enough to make it into the final

The qualification was carried out in two groups. The qualification height was 4.55 m. After it became clear that 4.50 m or even 4.45 m would be sufficient for the final qualification, only one jumper approached this height, which she then managed (highlighted in light blue). In addition, the final field was recruited from the next best eleven female athletes in both groups (highlighted in light green), who had jumped at least 4.35 m in the first jump with at most one previous failed attempt.

final

August 8, 2018, 7:20 p.m. CEST

The Greek Ekaterini Stefanidi was the favorite in this competition. She was the reigning world champion , Olympic champion in 2016 and European champion of 2016 . Their strongest opponents were mainly her compatriot Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou as WM -Third of 2015 , EM -Third of 2012 and EM -Vierte of 2016, Sweden's Angelica Bengtsson as EM -Third of 2016 and World Cup -Vierte of 2015 and the British Olympic Fifth of 2016 and World Cup sixth of 2017 Holly Bradshaw.

Six athletes were still in the competition when the jump height of 4.70 m was set up. Before that, Iryna Schuk was eliminated in seventh place with a jump of 4.55 m. Four jumpers had so far remained without a failed attempt. Stefanidi had only completed one jump and mastered 4.65 m. The Russian Anselika Sidorova, who started under a neutral flag, also competed once. She had managed 4.55 m and missed 4.65 m. In addition, the French Ninon Guillon-Romarin and Bradshaw were there without fail. Bengtsson and Kyriakopoulou each had one missed jump. Stefanidi and Bradshaw left out the 4.70 m. Kyriakopoulou was successful on the first attempt, Sidorowa jumped the height on the third attempt. Guillon-Romarin and Bengtsson tore three times each and were eliminated. Ninon Guillon-Romarin was fifth, Angelica Bengtsson was sixth.

Sidorowa left out the 4.75 m that were now due. The two Greeks took their jumps at this height and were successful the first time, while Bradshaw took three tries but then jumped the height. The increase has now been increased by five centimeters. Four athletes were still fighting for the three medals and the European championship. All four participants tried their hand at the new jump height. The favorite Stefanidi also took this height safely and at the first attempt. But the fight for the title had not yet been decided, because Kyriakopoulou was also successful, albeit only with her second jump. The decision about the further placements had been made. Both Bradshaw and Sidorowa each tried three times in vain at 4.80 m. Holly Bradshaw won the bronze medal, Anselika Sidorova finished fourth.

In the battle for gold, Ekaterini Stefanidi prevailed at the next height of 4.85 m. In the third attempt she was successful and improved Jelena Issinbajewas European championship record by five centimeters. Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou tore 4.85 m three times and became vice European champion. Stefanidi then let hang up 4.96 m. However, that was too high for her that day, she failed three times.
