The shot put men at the 2018 European Athletics Championships took place on 6 August at the Breitscheidplatz (qualification) and on 7 August at the Olympic Stadium (finals) in the German capital Berlin instead.

There was a Polish one-two. Michał Haratyk became European champion . Second place went to Konrad Bukowiecki . The German David Storl won the bronze medal.

qualification

The Pole Jakub Szyszkowski was 19.67 m short of three centimeters from the final
The Norwegian Marcus Thomsen retired with 19.59 m in the qualification
19.40 m was not enough for Belarusian Georgi Ivanov to be in the final

The athletes competed in two groups for a qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 20.40 m. Since only four athletes exceeded this distance - highlighted in light blue, the field was filled with the following best throwers from both groups to a total of twelve shot putters - highlighted in light green. So finally 19.70 m had to be pushed in order to be in the final.

To narrow favorites for the German David Storl belonged - European Champion 2012 / 2014 / 2016 , World Champion 2011 / 2013 , the Croat Stipe Žunić as WM -Dritter of 2017 and the two poles Michał Haratyk - Vice European Champion 2016 - and Konrad Bukowiecki - EM -Vierter 2016th

With his first stroke Storl scored 21.41 m, which brought him the lead. The competition was decided in round two. Haratyk hit the ball to 21.72 m, Bukowiecki 21.66 m. The Czech Tomáš Staněk also had his best attempt with 21.16 m. The Luxembourg Bob Bertemes came to 21.00 m, Žunić to 20.73 m. In the next rounds there were only two changes regarding ranks one to eight. In lap four Maxim Afonin scored 20.68 m, Alexander Lesnoi increased to 21.04 m with his penultimate shot. Michał Haratyk was the new European champion, Konrad Bukowiecki came second. David Storl won the bronze medal.
