Tomáš Staněk (born June 13, 1991 in Prague ) is a Czech shot putter .

Athletic career

Tomáš Staněk gained his first international experience at the U23 European Championships 2013 in Tampere , where he finished fifth with 19.18 m. The following year he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Sopot and was eliminated there with 20.06 m in qualification, as well as at the European Championships in Zurich with 19.61 m. At the European Home Championships in Prague 2015, he did not succeed in qualifying. But he qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where a width of 19.64 m was not enough for the finals . He finished the 2016 World Indoor Championships in Portland with 19.46 m in 16th place. He also qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 19.76 m in qualification .

In 2017, with a width of 21.43 m, he won the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade behind the Pole Konrad Bukowiecki . He qualified for the World Championships in London , where he was fourth with 21.41 m in the final . In 2018 he won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham with 21.44 m behind New Zealander Tomas Walsh and David Storl from Germany. This made him one of the favorites for the European Championships in Berlin , which he finished in fourth place with a push of 21.16 m. The following year he won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with 21.25 m behind the Poles Michał Haratyk and the German Storl. In October he reached the final at the World Championships in Doha once more , in which he finished tenth with 20.79 m.

In 2017 and 2019 Staněk became the Czech champion in the shot put outdoors and in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 also in the hall.
