Athletic career

Konrad Bukowiecki gained his first international experience in 2013 at the World Youth Championships in Donetsk , where he took fifth place with the 5 kg ball with a width of 20.10 m. A few days later he won the European Summer Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht with 21.41 m of the ball and won the silver medal in the discus throw with the 1.5 kg disc with 58.35 m. The following year he won the Junior World Championships in Eugene with the 6 kg ball with 22.06 m and retired in the discus throw with 52.92 m in qualification. He then secured the gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing with 23.17 m with the 5 kg ball.

In January 2015, Bukowiecki achieved a U20 indoor world record with the 6 kg ball at the Polish Indoor Championships in Toruń with a width of 22.38 m, surpassing the old record of the German David Storl by three centimeters. He was also able to qualify for an international championship for the first time in the adult sector with the 7.25 kg ball. At the European Indoor Championships in Prague he reached sixth place with a personal best of 20.46 m. In July he won the European Junior Championships in Eskilstuna with a new championship record of 22.62 m with the 6 kg ball and was eliminated in the discus competition with 54.43 m in qualification. In August he first took part in the World Championships in Beijing , but retired without a valid attempt in the qualifying round . Nevertheless, he was named the best young athlete ("Rising Star") in the election for Europe's athlete of the year .

In 2016 he finished fourth at the World Indoor Championships in Portland with a width of 20.53 m. He was also fourth at the European Championships in Amsterdam , 20.58 m. At the U20 World Championships in his home town of Bydgoszcz , he originally won a new U20 world record - the gold medal - with 23.34 m with the 6 kg ball. After a doping test positive for higenamine , however, he was disqualified and his result in the discus throw was also annulled. Allderding he was not banned for a certain period of time as usual and was thus able to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he reached the finals , but remained there without a valid attempt.

In 2017, Bukowiecki won the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade with a world record for the year of 21.97 m and thus won his first international title in the active class. He also won the gold medal at the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , setting a new championship record with a width of 21.59 m. At the beginning of August he reached the finals at the World Championships in London and finished eighth there with 20.89 m. Only two weeks later he had to admit defeat to the Portuguese Francisco Belo at the Summer Universiade in Taipei with 20.16 m in the final and thus won the silver medal. The following year, Bukowiecki increased his indoor best performance to 22.00 m in February 2018 and thus qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in early March, but could not confirm his form there and only finished eighth with 20.99 m. In August he won the silver medal behind his compatriot Michał Haratyk at the European Championships in Berlin with a width of 21.66 m .

The year 2019 started disappointingly for him, as he was eliminated from the qualification at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with 20.18 m. During the outdoor season he was able to improve continuously and won the Student World Games in Naples with a new university record of 21.54 m. In addition, he successfully defended his 2017 title at the U23 European Championships in Gävle, Sweden, with 21.51 m. He was also considered a medal candidate with outsider chances for the World Championships in Doha in October and finished in a high-class final with eight athletes over 21 Meters with a width of 21.46 m took sixth place. Shortly afterwards he won the silver medal behind the Brazilian Darlan Romani at the World Military Games in Wuhan with 21.84 m .

In 2016 and 2019, Bukowiecki secured the Polish championship title in the shot put outdoors and in 2017 indoors.
