Asmir Kolašinac ( Serbian - Cyrillic Асмир Колашинац ; born October 15, 1984 in Skopje , SR Macedonia ) is a Serbian athlete .

Athletic career

Asmir Kolašinac gained his first international experience in 2005 for Serbia and Montenegro starting at the U23 European Championships in Erfurt , where he was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 15.66 m. For two years he took part in the Summer Universiade in Bangkok for Serbia and took sixth place there with 18.90 m. In 2008 he was able to improve further and qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where he qualified with 19.01 m , as well as at the World Championships the following year in Berlin with a width of 19.67 m. Before that, he reached the final at the Student World Games in Belgrade , but failed to make a valid attempt there. In 2010 he retired at the World Indoor Championships in Doha with 20.10 m in qualification and at the European Championships in Barcelona he finished seventh with a throw of 19.77 m in the final. At the 2011 World Championships he was eleventh. The following year he was eliminated from the European Indoor Championships in Paris without a valid attempt in qualifying, but made it to the final at the World Championships in Daegu , in which he came in tenth place with 19.84 m.

In 2012 he was eliminated from the qualification at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul with 19.70 m, but won the bronze medal behind the German David Storl and Rutger Smith from the Netherlands at the European Championships in Helsinki at the end of June with a width of 20.36 m . He qualified again for the Olympic Games in London , where he finished seventh with 20.71 m in the final . In March 2013 he won the gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a stroke of 20.62 m and also took part in the World Championships in Moscow , where he finished tenth with 19.96 m in the final. In 2014, however, he retired from the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, with 20.04 m in qualification, but came in fifth at the European Championships in Zurich with a width of 20.55 m. The following year he won another medal at the European Indoor Championships in Prague , but this time had to admit defeat to the German Storl with 20.90 m. In August he also took part in the World Championships in Beijing, where he finished seventh with 20.71 m in the final .

In 2016 he finished fifth at the European Championships in Amsterdam with a width of 20.43 m, but was eliminated from the qualification at his third Olympic Games with 20.16 m , as well as at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade the following year with 19, 96 m. Also at the World Indoor Championships 2018 in Birmingham he was eliminated with 19.34 m in qualification, as well as at the European Championships in Berlin, where he failed to make a valid attempt. In 2019 he took part again in the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow , but did not reach the final there with 19.82 m, as he did not at the World Championships in Doha in October with 19.86 m.

In 2008 and 2010 as well as 2011, from 2013 to 2015 as well as 2018 and 2019, Kolašinac became Serbian champion in the shot put outdoors and in 2013 and 2014 and from 2017 to 2019 also indoors.
