Alexander Michailowitsch Lesnoi ( Russian Александр Михайлович Лесной ; born July 28, 1988 in Moscow ) is a Russian shot putter .

Athletic career

Alexander Lesnoi gained his first international experience at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan , where he won the gold medal with a width of 20.30 m. He also qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where he was eliminated with 19.01 m in qualification. the following year he was eighth at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot with 20.16 m and tenth at the European Championships in Zurich with 19.83 m. In 2015 he failed both at the European Indoor Championships in Prague with 19.91 m, and at the World Championships in Beijing with 19.78 m in qualification .

After the ban on all Russian athletes in 2016, Lesnoi has been allowed to participate in international competitions as a neutral athlete since 2017. He also qualified for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated with 19.67 m in the first round . The following year he was fifth at the European Championships in Berlin with 21.04 m. Also in 2019 he did not make it to the final at the World Championships in Doha with 19.62 m , but then finished eighth at the Military World Games in Wuhan with 19.61 m.

In 2014 and 2017 as well as in 2018 and 2019, Lesnoi became the Russian champion in the shot put.
