The shot put men at the 2012 European Athletics Championships was on 27 and 29 June 2012 at the Olympic Stadium in the Finnish capital Helsinki held.
European champion was the German world champion from 2011 David Storl . He won ahead of the Dutch vice world champion from 2005 Rutger Smith , who also won the bronze medal in the discus throw the following day . Third was the Serb Asmir Kolašinac .

qualification

24 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 20.30 m. Two athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the ten next-placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 19.48 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.

The reigning world champion David Storl became European champion
