The men's 3000 meter obstacle course at the 2012 European Athletics Championships was held on June 27 and 29, 2012 in the Olympic Stadium in the Finnish capital Helsinki .

The French defending champion was European champion, Olympic runner-up in 2008 and World Cup, and third in 2011 was Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad . The Turkish Tarık Langat Akdağ won silver . Bronze went to the Spaniard Víctor García .

doping

There were two doping cases in this competition:

  • The Frenchman Nour-Eddine Gezzar , who came in fourth, was subsequently disqualified in 2012 when erythropoietin was discovered in a doping test carried out on June 17 .
  • The Russian Ildar Minschin , who was eliminated in eleventh place in the second round, was subsequently proven to have taken banned substances in August 2009. He was banned for two years and several results were voided , including his EM result.

The Briton James Wilkinson , who was denied participation in the finals due to Nour-Eddine Gezzar's doping fraud , was particularly disadvantaged .

The preliminary round was held in two runs. The first four athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the seven fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semi-finals.
