The men's 3000 meter obstacle course at the European Athletics Championships in 1966 was held on September 1st and 3rd, 1966 in Budapest's Népstadion .
In this race, the obstacle runners from the Soviet Union achieved a double victory. Viktor Kudinski became European champion . Second place went to Anatoly Kurjan . Bronze went to the Belgian world record holder and 1964 Olympic champion Gaston Roelants .

Record improvements
European champion Wiktor Kudinski improved the EM record in the final on September 3rd by six seconds to 8: 26.6 minutes and missed the world record of the third-placed 1964 Olympic champion Gaston Roelants by just two tenths of a second.
