Dieter Hartmann (born January 24, 1938 in Görlitz ) is a German middle-distance runner . He took in the 1964 Olympic Games at the 3000-meter steeplechase men's part.

Dieter Hartmann was born as the eldest son of Ella and Lienhard Hartmann. He has a younger brother and two younger twin sisters. Hartmann studied mathematics and physics to become a teacher and later made his trainer diploma. On April 21, 1962 he married Gisela Hübner, with whom he had three daughters. From 1974 to 1976 Dieter Hartmann worked in Cuba as a trainer for the Cuban men's national team in the medium and long distance athletics discipline. After returning from Cuba, he worked as an athletics trainer at SC Traktor Schwerin. He still lives in Schwerin .

Sporting successes

Dieter Hartmann took part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964. In the 3000 meter obstacle course , he was one of 29 participants from 19 different countries. With a time of 9: 09.2 min, however, he did not make it into the final.

In 1966 he finished 6th at the European Championships in Budapest in the 3000 meter obstacle course with a time of 8: 31.6 minutes. This was also his personal best.
