Whangapoua Harbor is a natural harbor on the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island of New Zealand .

The Whangapoua Harbor is located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula , approximately 12 km east of Coromandel and about 46 km north-northeast of Thames . With its longest arm, the natural harbor has a length of around 5.4 km and a maximum width of 3.8 km. The extensive, very silted and branched body of water with a coastline of around 28 km is fed by the Waitekuri River , the Opitonui River and various small and large streams (brooks).
The small settlement of Matarangi on the north bank of the natural harbor has a small jetty.
Whangapoua Harbor, located in the Thames-Coromandel District and belonging to the Waikato region, can be reached from New Zealand State Highway 25 , which connects the water with Coromandel on the west coast and the southern course of the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula .
