The men's 3000 meter obstacle course at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held on August 20 and 23, 1998 in the Népstadion in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .

European champion was the German Damian Kallabis . He won in front of the Italian defending champion and Olympic third party from 1996 Alessandro Lambruschini . Bronze went to the Norwegian Jim Svenøy .
