The men's 1,500-meter run at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held on August 18 and 20, 1998 in the Népstadion in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .
In this competition, the Spanish middle distance athletes won two medals, gold and bronze. European champion was the World Cup -Third of 1997 Reyes Estévez . He won in front of the Portuguese Rui Silva . Bronze went to the defending champion, Olympic champion from 1992 , Olympic champion from 1996 , vice world champion from 1997 and European coordinator Fermín Cacho .

The preliminary round was held in two runs. The first four athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the four fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semifinals. All athletes who achieved their time in the finals came from the second somewhat faster run-up.
