The heptathlon for women in the 1998 European Athletics Championships on 22 and 23 August 1998 at the Népstadion the Hungarian capital Budapest discharged.

European champion was the British Olympic third in 1996 and vice world champion in 1997 Denise Lewis . She won before the Polish European Championship third in 1994 Urszula Włodarczyk . The 1996 Olympic runner-up Natallja Sasanowitsch from Belarus won the bronze medal.

The seven disciplines of the heptathlon took place over two days.
Day 1 - August 22: 100-meter hurdles , high jump , shot put , 200-meter run
Day 2 - August 23: long jump , javelin , 800-meter run

The rating was based on the 1985 point table, which is still valid today.
