qualification

August 19, 1998

25 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 5.70 m. After five pole vaulters jumped 5.45 m and another eight jumped 5.45 m, it would have made no sense to continue this qualification. That would not have led to the finding of one of these thirteen athletes who should not have been allowed to take part in the final - twelve athletes are actually intended to participate in the final. All thirteen pole vaulters who had mastered at least 5.45 m (highlighted in light green) contested the final three days later.
