qualification

August 21, 1958, 1:30 p.m.

The 26 participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 4.15 m. 21 athletes jumped this mark (highlighted in light blue) and entered the final together the next day. Only five participants failed in the qualification and it is not clear why qualifications were even carried out with this constellation, which existed in almost all jumping and throwing disciplines.
