Peter Laufer (born September 13, 1936 in Breslau , Province of Silesia , † March 4, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German athlete . He competed in the pole vault and in the 110-meter hurdles .

biography

After Laufer finished eighth in the pole vault at the 1958 European Championships , he won the gold medal at the GDR championships in 1959 and the silver medal a year later. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 , however, he did not manage to qualify for the final in the pole vault and finished in 14th place. A year later he was again GDR champion . At the GDR championships in 1963 Laufer again won silver in the pole vault and bronze over 110 m hurdles.

Laufer trained as a civil engineer and was a beekeeper in his spare time . In 1962 he married the long jumper Hildrun Claus .
