The Research Studios Austria Forschungsgesellschaft (short: RSA FG) is an Austrian research company with a focus on new information and communication technologies. It has its headquarters in Salzburg and further research facilities (“studios”) in Vienna and Linz . The research company is “the only non-university research institution operating nationwide with its headquarters in Salzburg”. She has been led by the Austrian communication scientist, company founder and lawyer Peter A. Bruck since its inceptiondirected. She currently employs more than 50 researchers. The most famous researchers include the pervasive computing applications pioneer Alois Ferscha, JKU Linz, the open data pioneer Petr Knoth, Open University Milton Keynes, and the business computer scientist Christian Huemer, TU Vienna.

history

The research facility was founded in 2001/2002 according to a concept by Peter A. Bruck and started under the umbrella of the leading Austrian research company, the “Austrian Research Centers Seibersdorf” (ARC Seibersdorf GmbH), as “Research Studios Austria” (RSA) . The ARC is the predecessor of today's " Austrian Institute of Technology " (AIT). The Research Studios were spun off from the ARC in 2008 and have since operated as an independent research facility "Research Studios Austria Forschungsgesellschaft" (RSA FG) with a total of four research locations.

structure

The research company focuses on the transfer of knowledge and technology from universities to the market and is organized in research studios. These are small research teams headed by renowned scientists who deal with the prototyping of innovations, especially in the context of research projects of the FFG and the EU, but also carry out contract research for customers. Research Studios Austria Forschungsgesellschaft currently has five studios and a research lab:

  2. iSPACE Smart 4D Environments (Salzburg)
  3. Pervasive Computing Applications (Linz / Vienna / Salzburg)
  4. Smart Applications Technologies (Vienna)
  5. Data Science (Vienna / Salzburg)
  6. Mobile Knowledge Lab (Linz / Vienna)

Current research focus and competencies

Current research interests include a. Assistive Geoinformatics, Digital Twins, Internet of Things, Smart Applications such as Bots, Mobile and Social MicroLearning, Open Access and Open Data, Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Fraud Detection, Predictive Analytics, Data Market Technologies, Aware Systems, Attention Research, EyeTracking, Augmented Reality and Smart Buildings / climate-friendly construction.

Cooperation with universities

The Research Studios Austria Forschungsgesellschaft works closely with Austrian universities such as TU Vienna, University of Vienna, JKU Linz or DUK Donau University Krems, but especially with the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg and the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. The research studios iSPACE Smart Settlement Systems and Smart 4D Environments are linked by a service agreement with the University of Salzburg in the implementation of knowledge and technology transfer. In 2019 a research cooperation on "Digital Intelligence" began with the Mozarteum University in Salzburg in the fields of Interactive Music Technologies and Open Access Science Solutions.
