Ragnar Lundberg

Ragnar "Ragge" Torsten Lundberg (born September 22, 1924 in Madesjö ; † July 10, 2011 ) was a Swedish athlete who was eleven times Swedish champion in the pole vault and four times Swedish champion in the 110-meter hurdles .

Career

At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 he was fifth in the pole vault with 4.10 meters, but was only the third best European behind the Finn Erkki Kataja in second place and the Norwegian Erling Kaas in fourth place. Two years later, at the European Championships in Brussels in 1950 , he first finished second in the hurdles behind the French André-Jacques Marie in 14.7 seconds . Two days later he won the pole vault title with 4.30 meters in front of the two Finns Valto Olenius and Jukka Piironen with 4.25 meters each.

In Helsinki at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, he jumped 4.40 meters and won bronze behind the Americans Bob Richards and Don Laz . At the European Championships in Bern in 1954 , he jumped 4.40 meters like the Finnish winner Eeles Landström , but received only silver. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 Lundberg finished fifth with 4.25 meters, in Stockholm at the European Championships in 1958 he was tenth with 4.20 meters.

In 1952 he set a European record with 4.44 meters. He achieved his best performance with 4.46 meters. During his career, his competitive weight was 73 kg with a height of 1.81 m.
