Don Laz
Don Laz (actually: Donald Robert Laz ; * May 17, 1929 in Chicago , † February 21, 1996 in Champaign , Illinois ) was an American pole vaulter .
As a student at the University of Illinois , he became an NCAA champion in 1951 . In 1952 he shared the US title with Bob Richards and in 1953 with George Mattos .
His greatest success is winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , where he had to admit defeat only Richards with 4.50 m, who crossed 4.55 m in the last attempt.
At the 1955 Pan American Games in Mexico City, Laz won bronze.
