Alexander Konstantinowitsch Krupski

Alexander Konstantinowitsch Krupski ( Russian Александр Константинович Крупский , English transcription Aleksandr Krupskiy ; born January 4, 1960 in Irkutsk ) is a former Russian pole vaulter who competed for the Soviet Union.

career

In 1979 he was European runner-up with 5.40 m. At the European Indoor Championships in Grenoble in 1981 , he took second place with 5.65 m behind the French Thierry Vigneron with 5.75 m. A year later at the European Indoor Championships in Milan he was fourth with 5.55 m, but was only the third best participant from the Soviet Union behind the winner Viktor Spassow with 5.70 m and second-placed Konstantin Volkov with 5.65 m. At the European Championships in Athens in 1982, only Krupski competed among these three athletes. With 5.60 m he was European champion in front of his compatriot Vladimir Polyakov and the Bulgarian Atanas Tarew , who also jumped 5.60 m, but won silver and bronze due to the multiple attempts rule .

At the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg Krupski won bronze with 5.60 m behind the two French Thierry Vigneron with 5.85 m and Pierre Quinon with 5.75 m. In 1985 at the European Indoor Championships in Piraeus , Krupski jumped 5.70 m as high as the winner Serhij Bubka , but only received the silver medal due to the multiple attempts rule.

Krupski won only one medal at Soviet open-air championships: in 1981 he and Polyakov came second behind Spassow. In 1982, 1984 and 1985 he became Soviet champion in the hall.

Krupski is 1.85 m tall and weighed 77 kg during his playing days. In 1982 he became an Honored Master of Sports of the USSR . Today he is the chairman of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports in Irkutsk Oblast .
