qualification

August 23, 1958, 6.15 p.m.

The nineteen participants competed in a common qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 67.00 m. Fifteen athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), only five throwers were eliminated. As in almost all jumping and throwing competitions, the question arises under these circumstances, why a qualification was set at all.
