The men's javelin at the European Athletics Championships 1969 was held on September 19, 1969 in Athens' Karaiskakis Stadium .
It was won by the Soviet Olympic champion in 1968 and two-time European Champion of 1962 / 1966 Jānis Lūsis . The Finnish Olympic champion from 1964 Pauli Nevala came in second . Bronze went to the two-time European champion of 1954 / 1958 Janusz Sidło from Poland.

qualification
A qualifying round was originally planned for September 18, 1969 at 11:45 a.m., but this was canceled due to the small number of participants. So all thirteen throwers competed together for the final on the following day.
