The women's 1,500-meter run at the European Athletics Championships in 1969 was held on September 10 and 11, 1969 in Athens' Karaiskakis Stadium . The competition was on the program of a top-class international championship for the first time.
The European champion was Czechoslovak Jaroslava Jehličková , who won the race in a new world record time. Second place went to Maria Gommers , who took third place in the 1968 Olympic Games over 800 meters . Bronze went to the Italian Paola Pigni .

Maria Gommers, who won the Olympic Games over 800 meters the year before , became Vice European Champion
Ilja Keizer (here with the US sprinter Charles Greene ) reached fifth place three days after her eighth place over 800 meters
