Thelwyn Bateman
Thelwyn Bateman (born December 28, 1944 ) is a former British middle and long distance runner .
At the beginning of her career she was a sprinter . At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston in 1966 , she was eliminated over 100 yards , 220 yards and 440 yards in advance and was fifth with the Welsh 4-by-110-yard relay.
In 1969 she was eliminated at the European Athletics Championships in Athens over 1500 m and in 1970 at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh over 800 m in the preliminary run.
At the Cross Country World Championships she took part three times for Wales and once for England (1976) with the following placements:
- 1973 in Waregem : 48
- 1975 in Rabat : 34
- 1976 in Chepstow : 32
- 1982 in Rome : 74
In 1980 and 1981 she was the English indoor champion over 3000 m . She was five times Welsh champion in cross-country running (1968-1970, 1973, 1982), four times over 800 m or 880 yards (1968-1970, 1972) and once over 400 m (1971).
