Rita Ridley
Rita Ridley (born Lincoln, later Cleaver ; born November 4, 1946 , † February 12, 2013 ) was a British medium and long-distance runner .
Life
Her greatest success on the track was winning the gold medal in the 1500 meter run of the British Commonwealth Games in 1970 , in which she competed for England . At the European Athletics Championships she was seventh over the same distance in Athens in 1969 and fourth in Athens in 1971 . At the open English championships she won the mile run in 1966 and 1967 and in 1968, 1970 and 1971 over 1500 m.
In cross-country she was five times English champion (1969–1972, 1974). She won silver at the Cross of Nations in 1967, tenth in 1971 and bronze in 1972, winning gold every time with the English team. She also won team gold at the first two Cross Country World Championships, with fourth place in Waregem in 1973 and bronze in the individual standings again in Monza in 1974 .
