The men's decathlon at the European Athletics Championships in 1969 was held on September 17 and 18, 1969 in Athens' Karaiskakis Stadium .

In this competition there was a double victory for the decathletes of the GDR. European champion was Joachim Kirst . He won ahead of Herbert Wessel . Bronze went to Viktor Chelnokov from the USSR.

A new point table from 1964 was used for scoring.
