The Athens Karaiskakis Stadium in 2009

The men's decathlon at the European Athletics Championships in 1969 was held on September 17 and 18, 1969 in Athens' Karaiskakis Stadium .

In this competition there was a double victory for the decathletes of the GDR. European champion was Joachim Kirst . He won ahead of Herbert Wessel . Bronze went to Viktor Chelnokov from the USSR.

execution

The decathlon was carried out according to the same rules as today. The ten disciplines took place over two days.

Day 1: September 17th - 100 m / long jump / shot put / high jump / 400 m
Day 2: September 18th - 110 m hurdles / discus throw / pole vault / javelin throw / 1500 m

A new point table from 1964 was used for scoring.
