The men's decathlon at the 1954 European Athletics Championships was held on August 26 and 27, 1954 in the Neufeld stadium in Bern .

European champion was Vasily Kuznetsov from the Soviet Union. He won before the Finn Torbjörn Lassenius. Bronze went to the German Heinz Oberbeck .

Record improvement

The existing championship record of the European champion Ignace Heinrich from 1950 , based on the then valid rating system from 1952, continued to exist. According to today's rating from 1985, Vasily Kuznetsov would have been 51 points better with 6881 points. France 1946Fourth French Republic

The decathlon was carried out according to the same rules as today. The ten disciplines took place over two days.
