The men's 5000 meter run at the European Athletics Championships in 1954 was held on August 26 and 29, 1954 in the Neufeld Stadium in Bern .
The European champion was the Soviet runner Volodymyr Kuz , who set a new world record in the final . He won ahead of the British Christopher Chataway . Bronze went to the Czechoslovak defending champion Emil Zátopek , who had won the 10,000 meter run four days earlier .

With his world record in the final, Wolodymyr Kuz also improved the European Championship record by 6.4 seconds to 13: 56.6 minutes.
