The men's hammer throw at the 1954 European Athletics Championships was held on August 28 and 29, 1954 in the Neufeld Stadium in Bern .

The European champion was the Soviet thrower Mikhail Krivonossow , who set a new world record with 63.34 m . Second place went to the Norwegian defending champion Sverre Strandli . Bronze went to the 1952 Olympic champion József Csermák from Hungary.

The 27 participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was set clearly too low at 51.00 m. Only five athletes did not reach this mark and were eliminated, while 22 throwers qualified for the final (highlighted in light blue).
