Roger Alton

Roger Alton (born December 20, 1947 in Oxford ) is a British journalist . He was the editor of the Observer , the Independent and the Times ( executive editor ).

Life

Roger Alton attended Clifton College in Bristol and graduated from Exeter College , Oxford . His first position in a newspaper was in 1969 at the Liverpool Post. In 1974 he came to the Guardian and was responsible for the news, sports and art departments. In 1999 he became editor of the Guardian's weekend magazine. In 1998 he moved to the Observer as editor and, after ten years, to the Independent, also as editor. From 2010 to 2015 he was executive editor of the Times.

Alton has been writing a sports column for the Spectator since 2008 .

Private

Allen was married to actress Hannah Lederer (* 1990) for the first time. Their daughter is the actress Helen Lederer.
