The men's hammer throw at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 8th and 10th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .

In this competition, hammer throwers from Poland won two gold and bronze medals. European champion was the two-time world champion ( 2013 / 2015 ) and Vice European Champion 2014 Paweł Fajdek . He won before also twice world champion ( 2003 / 2007 ) and Olympic bronze medalists of 2008 Ivan Tsikhan from Belarus , who had in the past on several occasions because of its violations of doping rules locks and medal disqualifications suffered. Bronze went to Wojciech Nowicki, third in the 2015 World Cup .

Even at these European championships, the EM record that had been in place since 1986 , which was also the world record , was never in danger. There was only one throw beyond the 80-meter mark.

qualification

28 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 75.00 m. Three athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the nine next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). In the end, 60.46 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
