Mark William Dry (born October 11, 1987 in Milton Keynes ) is a British hammer thrower .

Athletic career

Mark Dry gained his first international experience at the U23 European Championships 2009 in Kaunas , where he was eliminated with 65.05 m in qualification. In 2010 he started sixth for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and threw 67.41 m there. Two years later he qualified for the European Championships in Helsinki , where he was eliminated with 70.27 m in qualification.

In 2014 he won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 71.64 m behind the Canadian James Steacy and the Englishman Nick Miller . In 2015 he qualified for the first time for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 73.87 m in the qualification . In 2016 he failed at the European Championships in Amsterdam with 71.96 m in qualification, as well as at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where 71.03 m was not enough for a final . Two years later he took part for the third time in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where he again won the bronze medal behind the Englishman Miller and the Australian Matthew Denny with 73.12 m .

So far he has been five times Scottish champion (2009, 2010, 2012-2014). He set his personal best of 76.93 m on May 17, 2015 in Loughborough .

Doping ban 2020

In February 2020, the 32-year-old was banned from the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) for a missed doping test in 2018 for four years.
