The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam

The men's half marathon at the 2016 European Athletics Championships took place on July 10, 2016 in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam . This distance was for the first time in the program of European Athletics Championships. The competition came into the program instead of the marathon because of the Olympic Games taking place in a few weeks .

The Swiss Tadesse Abraham became European champion . He won in front of the Turkish Kaan Kigen Özbilen . Bronze went to the Italian European marathon champion in 2014 , European championship third over 10,000 meters in 2010 and runner-up European champion in over 10,000 meters in 2012, Daniele Meucci .

For the team ranking, the times of the three best runners per nation were added. However, the evaluation was not part of the official medal table. The team from Switzerland won ahead of Spain and Italy.

The half marathon took place on a circuit in the city center of Amsterdam. Start and finish were at the Rijksmuseum .
