Khalid Choukoud (born March 23, 1986 in Fès ) is a Dutch long-distance runner of Moroccan origin.

Life

Khalid Choukoud came to the Netherlands with his parents from Morocco at the turn of the millennium. He started out as a sport of Thai boxing , but switched to athletics at the end of 2004 after an injury and joined the Hague sports club AV Sparta. Khalid Choukoud quickly developed into one of the fastest Dutch junior runners and was still able to win the Dutch championships in the 10,000 meter run ( Drunen , April 2nd, 2005) in 30: 12.06 minutes as a youngster . Also in 2005 he started at the Junior European Championships in cross-country running, over 5000 and 10,000 meters.

In his first year in the senior class in 2006, now starting for the Haag Atletiek club, Khalid Choukoud ran at the Dutch championships over 10,000 meters in third place ( Vught , May 25, 2006, 29: 21.98 min) and over 5000 meters to fourth place ( Amsterdam , July 9, 2006, 14: 11.74 min). This was followed by a 9th place in the individual ranking and a 6th place in the team ranking at the 2006 European Cross Country Championships , San Giorgio su Legnano ( ITA ), age group U23.

After further top placings at the Dutch championships in 2007, including a second place in the 10,000 meter run ( Utrecht , May 17, 2007, 29: 43.12 min), Khalid Choukoud won a competition on June 2, 2007 in Neerpelt ( BEL ) tested positive for doping after undercutting the 10,000 meter standard for the U23 European Athletics Championships in 2007 in 29: 16.18 . This was announced on July 6, 2007 in a press release. A counter-opinion carried out on July 4, 2007 confirmed the findings of stanozolol in his urine.

In retrospect, Khalid Choukoud protested his innocence and said that, as an opponent of doping, he could only imagine that the prohibited substances were contained in dietary supplements that he and his trainer Mohammed Ben Sabahia had bought during a training session in Morocco. Khalid Choukoud battled a ban, but was banned in March 2008 for two years from June 4, 2007. Then he separated from his trainer.

During his suspension, Khalid Choukoud received support from multiple sources and was able to work on his comeback. This took place at the Gouden Spike Meeting on June 13, 2009 in Leiden (NLD), where he ran a personal best over 3000 meters in 8: 02.21 min. The following spring, Khalid Choukoud won a Dutch championship title for the first time since 2005, now in cross-country over the long distance ( Hellendoorn , March 7, 2010). Other national titles should follow.

After participating in the 2010 European Cross Country Championships (32nd place, Albufeira ( PRT ), December 12, 2010) Khalid Choukoud made his half marathon debut at the Egmond Half Marathon on January 9, 2011 , followed by the first marathon on April 13, 2014 Rotterdam Marathon in a personal best of 2:10:52 h with the 7th place.

At the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki ( FIN ) in 2012 , he ran over 10,000 meters in a personal best of 28: 26.82 minutes, finishing in 7th place. He then represented the Netherlands, apart from annual participation in the European Cross Country Championships , only again at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 internationally, but did not reach the goal in the half marathon . Nevertheless, the Netherlands and four other athletes took 6th place in the half marathon team ranking.
