The shot put women at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was on 6 and 7 July 2016 in the Olympic Stadium of the Dutch capital Amsterdam discharged.
European champion was the German defending champion, 2015 world champion and 2013 vice world champion Christina Schwanitz . Silver went to Anita Márton in the Hungarian European Championship third in 2014 . The Turkish Emel Dereli won bronze.

The existing EM record was not set at these European championships and was not improved. There was no width of more than 21 meters, there was a shock beyond twenty meters.

qualification
July 6, 2016, 7:10 p.m.
27 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 17.30 m. Eight athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the four next-placed athletes to twelve shot putters (highlighted in light green). So finally 16.86 m had to be achieved for the final.
