Melissa Boekelman (born May 11, 1989 in Dordrecht ) is a Dutch shot putter , javelin thrower , discus thrower and bobsleigh athlete .

Athletic career

In 2005 she finished fourth at the Junior European Championships . In 2006 she won the gold medal in the shot put at the Junior World Championships in Beijing . In the discus throw she was eliminated from qualification without a valid attempt. The following year, she again secured the gold medal at the European Athletics Junior Championships 2007 in Hengelo . With the discus she finished seventh in the final. At her second Junior World Championships in 2008 she won the silver medal this time and was eliminated in the discus throw again in the qualifying round. At the European Athletics U23 Championships in 2009 in Kaunas , she finished fourth with the ball and also competed in the javelin, with which she could not cope with the qualifying round. She also took part in the European Indoor Championships in Turin , which she finished eighth.

In 2010 she was eliminated from the qualification at the World Indoor Championships and was fourteenth at the European Championships in Barcelona . In 2011 she won the bronze medal in the shot put at the U23 European Championships . Boekelman then specialized in bobsleigh for two years. In 2013 she made her debut in the European Cup and in 2014 she took part in the Bobsleigh World Cup in St. Moritz for the first time . 2014 qualified for the European Championships in Zurich and finished twelfth there. She finished eighth at the 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she was eliminated in qualification .

In 2017 Boekelman qualified for the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade and was eliminated from the qualification there. At the World Championships in London , she finished eleventh in the final with a kicked 17.73 m.
