doping
The shot put was not excluded from the doping problem either, Belarusian athletes were affected in both cases:
- The initially victorious Nadseja Astaptschuk was convicted of doping fraud for the third time. She was banned from all competitions for four years and narrowly escaped a life ban.
- Natallja Michnewitsch , who initially came second , had also been exposed as a doping offender earlier - as was the case at these European championships.
The main victims were the three athletes who received their well-earned medals much later:
- Anna Avdejewa , Russia - received gold instead of bronze
- Janina Prawalinskaja-Karoltschyk , Belarus - moved up from fourth to silver
- Olga Iwanowa , Russia - Bronze instead of fifth
In addition, two participants in the final would have allowed three more attempts each:
- Helena Engman , Sweden
- Mariam Kewchishvili , Georgia
There were no athletes here who were denied entry to the finals by the doping fraudsters.
