The men's 20 km at the 2010 European Athletics Championships took place on the streets of Barcelona on July 27, 2010 .

European champion was the Italian Alex Schwazer . Second place went to the Portuguese European Championship third from 2006, João Vieira . Bronze went to the Irishman Robert Heffernan .

Note:
The previously existing practice of not keeping records in marathon running and street walking due to the different track conditions with the exception of championship records was no longer used from 2003 onwards. Since then there have also been official records in these road competitions. However, clear rules about the nature of the route must be observed. The time of 1:16:43 h set by Russian Sergei Morozov on June 8, 2008 in Saransk was not recognized as an official world and European record .

The existing EM record was not set at these European championships and was not improved.

In this competition, sanctions had to be imposed on two athletes for doping fraud.

The 20-km walk was the first decision of the European Championships. The 19-year-old Russian Stanislaw Jemeljanow was one of the favorites together with Alex Schwazer. Jemeljanow, who was first to finish first, was subsequently disqualified for doping abuse - see below . Schwazer became European champion ahead of Portuguese João Vieira, who had to take an involuntary break to tie his shoes at the beginning of the race.
