EM record | 1:18:45 h | Mikhail Shchennikov | EM in Helsinki , Finland | August 7, 1994 |
Note:
The previously existing practice of not keeping records in marathon running and street walking due to the different track conditions with the exception of championship records was no longer used from 2003 onwards. Since then there have also been official records in these road competitions. However, clear rules about the nature of the route must be observed. The time of 1:16:43 h set by Russian Sergei Morozov on June 8, 2008 in Saransk was not recognized as an official world and European record .
The existing EM record was not set at these European championships and was not improved.
doping
In this competition, sanctions had to be imposed on two athletes for doping fraud.
- Stanislaw Jemeljanow ( Russia ) - initially first. On July 29, 2014 it was announced that all results from July 26, 2010, including the gold medal at the 20 km walk in Barcelona , will be withdrawn from him because of abnormal blood values in the “Biological Passport” .
- Ruslan Dmytrenko ( Ukraine ) - initially twelfth. On February 8, 2010, he was sanctioned for doping abuse. His results for the period from August 14, 2008 to August 3, 2012 were canceled. He was also suspended for two years.

There was no preliminary round here, all 27 walkers went to the final together.
