Giorgio Rubino

Giorgio Rubino (born April 15, 1986 in Rome ) is an Italian athlete who, as a walker on the short distances, achieved several top positions at international championships.

Rubino was able to achieve fourth place at the U18 World Championships in the 10,000 meter track in 2003. In the following year he finished tenth at the Junior World Championships, at the Junior European Championships in 2005 he won the bronze medal. With an eighth place over the 20-kilometer distance at the European Championships in 2006 , he made the transition to the adult class. In the following year he reached fifth place at the 2007 World Championships , in 1:23:39 h he was about one minute behind third place. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , Rubino was not able to finish in 18th place. In April 2009 he improved his personal best to 1:19:37 h. At the World Athletics Championships in 2009 , too, he stayed under the 80-minute mark in 1:19:50 h, and as fourth over the 20 kilometers he was 28 seconds behind the Mexican Eder Sánchez in third place. At the European Athletics Championships in 2010 , he finished fifth over 20 km.

At a height of 1.76 m, Rubino's competition weight is 55 kg.
