The men's 20 km walk at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held on August 27, 1986 in the streets of Stuttgart .

The European champion was the Czechoslovak EM -second from 1982 , WC -second from 1983 and holder of the world record Jozef Pribilinec . He won ahead of the Italian world champion from 1983 and Olympic third from 1984 Maurizio Damilano . Bronze went to the Spaniard Miguel Prieto .
